Looking at upgrading my aging 6970

Game at 1080p
Want to spend sub £300

Don't care about green/red as long as it works and gives bang for buck

Or should I wait

Best bang for bucks is the 7950 at under £190 and with free games. 7970 is around £250, but as forum members have already done extensive comparsion between the 7950 and 7970 on the same clock and concluded the 7970 only offering average of 3-5% faster in speed...so IMO it's not really worth paying extra 25% in cost for it (not to mention the fact that the 7970 now seem to be no longer at £250 but went back up to around £270).

But if you want bigger even bigger jump in performance, if I were in your position I would fingers-cross for the 9950 (or whatever AMD's gonna call it next) to offer even bigger jump but at under the £350 price point...

don't think youll get better value for performance than a 7950 for a long while tbh.

7970 for 190 quid. even the newer cards wont be much if at all quicker for that price.

7950/70 or 670, take yer pick everyone has an opinion on them at the moment so down to you either stick with what you know or go something different, all 3 of them are fantastic cards, they all overclock well and all perform within the same gap as each other.

although the 7970 costs more and is probably a bit overkill for 1080p

Would it be worthwhile to consider picking up a second 6970 for xfire? I'd imagine I should be able to get one for a reasonable price

Just a thought

no point oc a 7950 will run cooler and be as fast as two 6970s in cf anyway.

7970 is as fast as two 6970s.

so sell your card put money into a 7950 oc to 7970 in minutes or go nvidia buy a 670 4gb oc to 680 standards.

best cards per pound at moment. if you game at 1080 theres no real value in getting anything above as the jump isnt worth the outlay.

Now the 670 has gone up in price, the 7950 is even more attractive.

Whatever the 9950 (or whatever it's called) is like, it's not going to be twice the performance of a 7950.

Just in case anyone is searching my question

Picked up a 7970 last week for £225 on TOday only

Sold the games that came with it for £26 result. Asus direct CU II TOP for £199

Have seen 7970's for £209.99, twice in the last two days now. All be it elsewhere, ordered the Asus direct CU II TOP one myself for that price and is coming with a bunch of game vouchers also.
