GTX 780 Not Performing :(

Games you have are CPU limited DayZ recommends an I5 with a GTX260 ..... clearly needs a good CPU while the GPU is just a means to display the output.

You may benefit for a I7 due to HT, a good OC to 4.5Ghz would help.

I'd say check 3dmark for to ensure the system is working, other than that, OC CPU, fast ram and SSD.

Do the games play ok ... usually not that fast paced. Turn of the FPS counter in the corner and see how it goes. 30-40 fps is usually fine in anything but a twitch shooter ... measuring just brings unhappiness

Well I have done what you guys say and I can notice a considerable difference on Arma 3. All maxed out apart from view distance, that's on about half and it manages to pull 50-70 fps out of it. Not sure on any other games yet as have to be up for work tomorrow so will play around more tomorrow and tinker with some things. Will update you guys tomorrow. Thanks again for the help so far!

On a single screen 1080p 60Hz there will not be a huge amount of difference between a 7950 and 780 GTX noticed in game.

Have you tried running any benchmarks and comparing scores in the relevant threads.

glad its all helped, can you post specifically what you did ?

Eg: did you overclock the cpu a bit more? goto stable drivers?

Most definitely the cpu. I have the exact same setup, but sli 780s. OC the cpu to 4.2 with an offset of about -0.110. Your voltage should stay below 1.2 with that too.

cpu needs upping. dayz the mod its all guess work as it can be the server you play on is garbage or overloaded then doesn't matter what pc you have you getting as low as 20-30 fps even with 8packs rigs :D

oc your cpu for a start 4.2 min should be easy achievable . find a good smooth dayz server.

I have noticed an issue in cpu dependent games where GPU usage isn't above a certain level it will dynamically downclock the gpu. Ensure that you set Power management mode in the Nvidia control panel to Maximum performance on a program specific basis. Do not set it as a global setting as the GPU will jump to 3d clocks when doing simple things like browsing the web.

I have noticed this in Rome 2 as gpu usage rarely breaches 60% and as such my 780 downclocks on adaptive power settings. This could be happening to you especially since Arma, Day Z and Rome 2 are more cpu dependent.

When in Planetside 2 hit...alt and F and it will tell you your FPS and also what your bottleneck is, with a 780 I imagine it should be your CPU if you have not over clocked so if it says 780 is the bottleneck at 1080p something is wrong.

Also not sure if someone has already suggested this but if a card wasn't performing a good way to measure if its doing what its supposed to (to rule out lack of power etc) is to have your CORE and MEM clocks displayed in an on screen display so you can see if they are actually hitting the correct numbers, on a stock 780 the default core clock is 980 so it should be hitting around 1080/1100 with the boost.

Rome 2, Planetside and ARMA don't run with high framerates on any cards.

I would imagine that you are CPU bottlenecked on the 780 and need to slap in a 4770k.

Reference 780 is 863mhz clock so boost to around 950-980. Regardless I'd urge OP to try what I posted before as it was an issue I specifically had with Rome 2 as it's gpu usage is too low so the card automatically downclocks. This hadn't previously affected me on other games/benchmarks as gpu usage usually exceeds 90%.

Lol@Besty suggesting a 4770k is needed. His cpu is fine though I agree with other posts that he needs to overclock that to at least 4ghz to free up some more performance.

I got a GTX780 recently and performance was very poor at first. No metter what I tried it was giving very low scores in benchmarks and games.

I upgraded from a 7950 and simply used driver cleaner to remove the AMD drivers. After a few days I used a spare HD to do a clean Windows install with the latest Nvidia drivers. All problems solved.

So if you have the time and a spare HD try a fresh windows install to see if that helps. At leat you can rule out a corrupt Windows install.

ah my bad, thinking of lightning clocks, right you are :)

Forgot to add, to OP: when I got my gpu (similar card to urs) it was not fully supported by the motherboard, possibly suggested already but if not try to update your bios, helped for me :)
