Can a sudden drop in GPU usage mean a card dying?

Heres a thread i made earlier which was moved probabaly better in here now i think i may have narrowed it down.

I got a drop on CPU and GPU usage as mentioned which were fine for 6 months just tried my 7970 in my i5 2500k@ 4.5 and my cpu in there gets to 90% usage but GPU averages 70-80%!
Its hardly ever at 99% on my for the last few days i7 3770k im sure it was at 99% most of the time the GPu that is so is this a sign of the card failing as my frames dropeed at one stage from 120fps to 25 fps! My i7 cpu usage doesnt reach 60% and my gpu is 60-70% usage on the i7!
Any help aprecciated
 
Also is there a deffinate test for GPU and CPU to know they are fine i have run seperate programs like Heaven and GPU hits 99% and Prime and Cpu hits 100% load but is there a way maybe to see if core differences in percent load make a difference?
 
Yeah seems weird its just started doing it on BF3 had some major drops but reading around some people have mentioned lag recently in the game but not realy frame drops.
 
I love that game BUT there are so many people getting done for hacks lately:mad:
I don't know if this was a hacker but we crossed paths i fired a fair few shots at him my screen went very laggy his hoping about and then i'm dead :confused:

And within that scene my FPS dropped a lot, He had something like 40+ kills and about 3 deaths in a small frag fest map and i just feel BF4 will go the same way why oh why do people have to cheat :(

Looks like a BF3 issue as i installed Farcry 3 again i get 99% Gpu usage but BF3 is anything from 70%-85% and occasionaly 99% other people seem to have had problems such as lag,fps drops etc since the last server maintenance. My cpu usage even in FARCRY 3 is still only around 50% though.

That's most probably because it doesn't need the extra CPU power as it is already pushing GPU usage at 99%. If you have faster graphic set up, then the CPU usage would increase as well.

If a server you're playing on is laggy or is being DDOS'd it will cause cpu usage to drop. Seen it on ours sometimes. The net code of Battlefield 3 is dogs poo.

yeah my specs are different than sig as well i will update i have an i7 3770k @ 4.4
