Some bloke in his van reversed into me my whilst in the car a couple of months ago. He admitted liability and my car was repaired and claimed against the other persons insurance.

Today I get a call, from an indian man, claiming to be from the "legal advice bureau". He tells me that I can basically claim compensation for £2000 for the stress etc that the accident had on me.

Is this some sort of scam, the greedy part of me says, ooo 2k, however it smelt of scam.

I have no idea how they had my details, they said that some governement organisation passed them on.

I told them to call me tomorrow.

Is it legit or a scam?

If you have to ask...
Scam

Or if not its ambulance chasers who will ask you to lie and claim you were injured at the time, good luck with medical insurance should you ever try to obtain it following such a claim

Who knows if the caller was genuine or not, but what he is saying is probably not far wrong if you look at the 'no win no fee' adverts in TV.

I guess you have to ask yourself, do you feel the stress of an accident in which you weren't injured and in which the culprit admitted full responsibility straight away and paid out is worth £2k and the hit the other guys insurance will no doubt take?

It feels a but selfish and immoral to take compensation just 'because you can' on the other hand, if the accident cost you money (in loss of earnings, equipment in the vehicle which was damaged and not covered by insurance etc), or genuniely did cause you a significant amount of stress then I suppose it's only fair you get recompense.

Scam. You pretend to be injured, and some dodgy lawyers sue for money to pay both you and themselves. Someone has sold your details on, and now you will get pestering phone calls for the next six years.

Did the caller tell you exactly what the accident was and how it happened? - I doubt it.
We get them quite often and I just ask what was the accident and they beat around the bush until I put the phone down

I read a thread about a man that might have been caused stress, the worry that a fellow forum member was stressed has caused me serious mental anguish can i sue anyone?

If you can convince a Solicitor they can get the ball rolling then they will however it's only a guess how far it will go.

I still get these calls from an accident I had last year. The difference is I went through with it with the first company that called. Me and the wife got 1000 quid each and 3 x 800 for the 3 kids.

Basically none of us were seriously injured but we had all suffered a little discomfort from the seatbelts and I had a small bruise, not to mention the emotional injury with the kids.

We had to go and see an independent doctor (it was like a year after the crash) but that was really just a formality.

lol they call me ask for Mr Richardson, not my name... Tell me about the accident i was in and the money i can claim.. Even after i tell them I am not him they tell me about another fictional accident that I can claim for... Makes me laugh.

and this is the reason our premiums are so high.

This. They call everyone, on the basis that if they call enough people they'll hit a few who really have been in accidents. But they don't know the OP, and have no idea what if any accident they were involved in.

Are you suggesting that we weren't entitled to the money?

He may not, but I am on the basis if a year after the crash you were not in any pain and there was no evidence there ever was then no you shouldn't be entitled to it. You weren't hurt to a major level.

Dd you lose any income? Did money heal the emotional injuries?

The system is insane.

Exactly this, the medical bills cost you zero (Ignoring tax), the car damage was paid for at the other persons expense and bruises can't be healed, only by our bodies money can't speed up time. Honestly if you say you deserved that compensation I don't understand you.

In my view you were not. It seems from what you wrote that you only considered the need for compensation when someone suggested it to you a year after the event. What loss did you experience that needed compensation apart from a bruise each?

I've had a number of these scammers trying to convince me that I've had an accident. You can imagine what I tell them to do.
