Hi all, I'm currently using a Hazro HZ27WC 8-Bit 27" IPS panel but latetly people have been telling me I should switch to a 120hz monitor and i'll see the benefit.

Is it worth dropping screen res to get 120hz or stick with what I have at 60hz?

Cards that would power it are 780gtx in SLI.

Cheers.

Its a tough choice.

Higher res better panel vs higher hz with a worse panel lower res.

hmm.

I think the only choice is to have both and use them for different applications :)

This does open up x3 monitor set ups should you then get a cheaper 27" to match your current 2.

Edit: I use 120hz and could never drop it in favour of full time use of a higher res better panel screen. But I'm tempted to get one as a secondary monitor for some applications...

I know a number of people who've faced the same dilemma and ended up doing just that.

If you are limited to a single monitor it really boils down to what you value most, the higher res or the smoothness / responsiveness that 120hz brings. It's very much a matter of personal preference though not easy to say what is right for you.

If you feel you could go back to 1080p gaming then I'd recommend demo'ing a 120hz monitor and see if you notice the difference in refresh rate (some do more than others). Hopefully one of the people nudging towards 120hz will live locally and you can try theirs out (possibly doing an A & B test with your monitor).

Yeah I'll have to borrow one of theirs for a few nights and see if I can notice the difference.

I have a dgm 27" ips and for fps games I noticed the lag so it ended up in the loft and I went back to a 1ms 60hz 27" iiyama which despite the drop in res was better for fps games. I later bought the asus 120hz but sold it on and got my current 27" iiyama 120hz, it lacks 3d and the colours are slighty off but its good for gaming and photoshop. I would never go back to an ips monitor for gaming till the input lag and response times are better.

I have a 120hz monitor and I could never use a 60hz panel again :)

Everything feels so smooth and responsive.

It's such a shame we have to choose between picture quality/high resolution and response time/refresh rate.

I was tempted to go back to a CRT - they seem superior in every way apart from size and 'sharpness'.

Monitor technology seems to be moving very slowly.

As everyone above with 120hz+ have said, i have 120hz and couldn't go back to 60hz.
I've got both 1440p 60hz and 1080p 120hz screens, the image quality is far superior on the 1440p but gives me splitting headaches whilst gaming to a point where it's been sitting lonesome for months, unless someone is doing a 1440p bench lmao :D

Until i get my whole desk back and can have both of them setup at the same time :)

I agree with the two posts above, I chose 120hz over ips 1440p and for what I use it for I would make exactly the same choice again.

Any recommendations on which monitors to go for? I could fit 2 24" on my desk to give an idea of space.

interesting debate, but of course 120hertz and above owners would pop on this thread;)

But it is nice to hear people suggesting you cant go back to an IPS or better quality rez and screen once you seen and used 120hertz+ screens.

Its such a shame IPS and better screens have failed to create 120hertz panels.... does not appear such a thing will ever come about either.

How do you adjust from IPS / MVA panels? Don't you think "wow the colours are so washed out", or have the 120Mhz/144Mhz newer screens got a lot better?

This is my 3rd MVA panel in about 10 years...

There is a VA 240hz coming from Eizo (might cost a fortune tho) and talk of other 120hz+ non-TN displays being announced in October.

If I were to go dual 24" right now I'd grab the Benq XL2420te and Benq BL2411pt for the best of both worlds. These would be my choice due to PWM LED flicker causing major eyestrain.

I'm going back to an IPS from a 120Hz, I've had enough of the rubbish colours on my Benq XL2420T.

i loved the fluidity of 120Hz gaming, but i couldn't stand the HORRIBLE colors of TN panel. went back to IPS.

it's about priorities, if you can try one out first. but since you already are an IPS panel user, i think you will hate the colors on a 120Hz TN panel.

Interesting but feels like they been suggesting this for years!

It is of course nice to hear 120hertz owners upgrading to IPS panels for better clarity/colours :)

i think theres no happy medium, if you have 1400 or 1600p you miss the response of the 120hz and if you have a 27" 120hz you miss the prettyness of the the higher res, cant have it all spose
