Lol so right

The funny thing is we went from massive phones to smaller and now for some reason people want huge phones again, when does a phone become a tablet?(phablet).....

I cannot truly understand why someone would want such a cumbersome device to carry around 24/7

I think for my tastes android phones are completely at the limit of acceptability screen size wise if not to much to be honest, any more and I think it would just look stupid,I sometimes feel like I would like a bigger screen(who doesn't like bigger!) but then the sacrifices I would have to make for it just dont seem worth it.

You know if Apple released a phone with 4.7" screen Apple fans would call that innovation. :D

Wow a lot of GS4 bashing in here from people making fun of Android fanboi's.

And calling the GS4 slow? OTT much?

The GS4 and iP5s are both awesome phones - just take your pick.

It's sad how people diss Android becasue they've tried an ancient version of it or don't know how to use it.

5 to 5s - upgrade if you can swallow the cost as there are plenty of improvements.

There have been plenty of new features giving the reason to upgrade every year if you value them enough.

I was a full on Apple fanboi, I'm just an apple user now.

Yes there isn't groundbreaking innovations like before, but people say they need to innovate and be creative, but what can they do. What would you like them to do?

They've created the whole ios/osx environment which works together really well, or at the very least miles ahead of anyone else.

I did use an S3 when it first came out, but went back to apple not long after just because most of my other stuff is apple and most other hardware seem to be built to cater for iphones. Cars, speakers, etc etc.

Yeah, the Sony Xperia looks good, the nokia 40megapixel camera looks good. But for me as an overall package, iPhones do it all well enough without too much fuss.

My old S3 I gave to my wife. It now is really slow and responsiveness is pretty bad actually. My colleague said he had to backup and do a factory reset on his to fix that sluggishness. I would do, but the backing up and restoring isn't as simple as a with an iPhone.

End of the day it's just a phone. My iPhone seems to do what I need/want relatively easily without much drama.

Lol

Larger battery is an innovation?

Without the larger battery with the bigger screen, bigger processing power, more power intensive apps, more pixels to push, the phone would've lasted 5 mins.

Stereo speaker...I hate people who listen to music in public with their phone with the speaker and when sound comes from a source that close together, it might as well be mono.

SD card slot, that's been around for 10 years!

Gorilla glass, that's on pretty much all smart phones now.

NFC, I think I used my touch aspect of my debit about 5 times in 2 years. The bank sent me a sticker to stick it to my phone, no thanks.

I am not trying to bash anyone but shouldn't buy phones because of these things, they should buy one that suits them.

I just can't see how an Android would be better suited for my needs.

Apple need to innovate, they're becoming static. Each release has been faster hardware and thats about it. They're missing Steve Jobs.

Tend to agree. The original iPhone in 2007 was obviously massively innovative. The iPhone 4 in 2010 was, IMHO, by far the most innovative step the iPhone took after release. It's now another three years later and they need to take another big step really but I just think they've run out of ideas.

The three year cycle seems to have a bit of history with Apple when it comes to big products:

1998: iMac
2001: iPod
2004: iTunes Store (ok it was 2003 but let's not dwell :p)
2007: iPhone
2010: iPad
2013: ???

Apple are due another new or innovative product and I don't see it yet. Loads of speculation about an iTV or Apple Watch but little evidence thus far.

Lol

Larger battery is an innovation?

Of course it is, even with the larger screens and more powerful hardware the latest Android devices still last just a long if not longer then previous devices. That's called progress, it's slow where battery's are concerned.

Stereo speaker...I hate people who listen to music in public with their phone with the speaker and when sound comes from a source that close together, it might as well be mono.

I agree that people that play music in public are annoying but that's got nothing to do with stereo speakers on phones.

So you never use your phone at home to watch a video or play a game do you?

The Boom Sound speakers on the HTC One have much higher quality sound than whats on the any other comparable device.

SD card slot, that's been around for 10 years!

Really? sdcard slots that support 64GB cards and that support UHS-1 speeds have been around for 10 years?!

Don't be stupid.

Gorilla glass, that's on pretty much all smart phones now.

Gorilla glass 3 is not on all phones.

NFC, I think I used my touch aspect of my debit about 5 times in 2 years. The bank sent me a sticker to stick it to my phone, no thanks.

NFC isn't just about making payments, it's an easy to use and secure method of transferring data.

You heard of Android beam or S beam? Probably not.

I am not trying to bash anyone but shouldn't buy phones because of these things, they should buy one that suits them.

Nobody said otherwise, of course this is true.

I just can't see how an Android would be better suited for my needs.

OK

None of those I consider an innovation, my Nokia from 2006 has an SD card slot, and who said anything about USH speed? You might as well say adding 1 ghz to the speed for the next gen phone is an innovation, of course newer card slots gets faster, not to would be stupid.

Bigger battery is not an innovation, it's a necessity! And my car has a bigger battery, it's not an innovation is it. It's not new, it's just bigger. You could say having a bigger home button is now an innovation.

And I play games on my phone on silent, my Xbox however is 5.1, now that's cinematic. Lol I can however mirror it to my TV in the living room, Dolby pro logic it to surround sound, don't think and HTC can beat that.

If I want sound on the move, that's what headphones are for. And I say again, sound that come from something that small, no matter how good, it's just underwhelming on the grand scheme of things. I rather they improve on the amp for the headphone socket.

The sound from the HTC One speakers are excellent for YouTube and music when you don't want to use headphones and are your in a private area.

And stereo speakers give off the stereo effect when your in front of it - derp, who would have known.

And no, people blaring them in public places is not the only use for them - shock horror.

Elibcake - your giving examples of evolution, not innovation.

Stereo that comes from something less than the width of your head sounds like coming from a single point.

Thus, not that useful.

And since when is stereo sound an innovation? Are we back in the 60's? Lol

Using bigger battery, stereo speakers as an argument for innovation really is clutching at straws. I'll give you NFC and that beam thing, even if its less than useless, at least it's new.

I think the next one will be the Apple Watch and I think it'll be sooner than people think. And I then think the "iTV" or whatever it'll be called will be a couple of years off (Probably until 4K picks up pace).

In theory that may sound right but you obviously haven't used the said phone.

Stereo effects are present there good and proper.

And the way in which HTC have implemented such great speakers on a phone can be considered innovative.

But lets move on.

I did, in the post you were originally responding to. Please read it.

You might as well say adding 1 ghz to the speed for the next gen phone is an innovation, of course newer card slots gets faster, not to would be stupid.

Umm, No. There's are bigger differences than just clockspeed's in the latest CPU's in the iPhone and Android smartphones. It isn't just raw clockspeeds.

Bigger battery is not an innovation, it's a necessity! And my car has a bigger battery, it's not an innovation is it. It's not new, it's just bigger. You could say having a bigger home button is now an innovation.

Necessity drives innovation, that's the whole point.

And I play games on my phone on silent, my Xbox however is 5.1, now that's cinematic. Lol I can however mirror it to my TV in the living room, Dolby pro logic it to surround sound, don't think and HTC can beat that.

Is an xbox comparable to a mobile phone? Of course not.

If I want sound on the move, that's what headphones are for. And I say again, sound that come from something that small, no matter how good, it's just underwhelming on the grand scheme of things. I rather they improve on the amp for the headphone socket.

This again has nothing to do with stereo speakers, you could the same thing about a mono speakers. Should we remove speakers from phones? Of course not because that would be stupid.

Regardless, the speakers on the HTC One are much better than anything else available currently on a mobile phone.

Elibcake - your giving examples of evolution, not innovation.

You could argue that point for almost anything featured in a smartphone, a smartphone by it's design incorporates allot of features into one device that already exist in different forms.

Is a fingerprint scanner innovative? it's obviously nothing new and it's already been done on mobiles in other parts of the world.

There is a difference between "newer version" and "innovative", I think you got it mixed up.

There is nothing innovative in putting in a bigger battery, or faster SD card slots.
