Going out alone in a new city

I lived in Bristol for a year on placement between uni years, so that was a new city for me and I knew no one. Social life eventually kicked in one I started knowing people at work. Until then, I just whiled my nights away playing Age of Empires II, as it was year 2000 at the time. Classic game :-)

I had an awesome time when I went out in London by myself. It's easy to talk to people, foreigners are always up for a chat and usually easy to spot in the pub.

Personally I find I exciting going out and explore. I don't really worry about getting lost or whatever, and this goes for cities and towns around the world.

You're young and in a big city that can offer you a lot, go out and exploit it and have fun. If you don't like it or don't have fun just go back to your flat/house and watch tv or browse the net, but give it a go at least.

Just don't go wandering the streets after dark looking like a student/ponce/easy target etc

Remember...street smarts

No headphones
Don't go flashing ya fancy phone about
Wallet in a front pocket

etc etc
