Hi Guys,

My friend wants a PC building, so I'm looking for the best parts for the budget, and my main problem is it's been a while since I got up to date with hardware. (That's assuming that building a PC hasn't changed too much!)

This is what I've come up with, so please make any recommendations/changes/anything I've missed etc. to get the best setup. All I request is the PSU is fully modular. When I built my PC I had enough non modular cables to last me many many life times! :D :o

He'll be using it for gaming, the usual etc.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, but is an aftermarket cooler necessary if no OCing will be done at all?

And is 500W really enough? That's a surprise.

500w is too much lol :D
Especially for the above ^

Aftermarket cooler is more for noise, the stock cooler is a bugger at load, but if the budget requires then leaving stock is fine.

Ample :D

I had a 2700k and 670 Gigabyte WF card and custom water, this pulled 330w from the mains at full load.

I think I echoed what Tonester0011 said ;)

Oh okay, when I built mine I needed a 600W, but I guess as tech gets better the power requirements are going down after all...

I thought the collers were easier to fit, it's just I had a hard time fitting my bequiet one, it was a real pain in the arse! I'm guessing the recommend ones will be easier then?

I've had some right PITA coolers to fit before, the easiest of them all are the stock coolers without a doubt, just push to fit.

Right, after finding out my friend isn't really fussed about an SSD, would all this be compatible:

(Still deciding on the case)

CPU is incompatible with the motherboard, you need Haswell cpu as in the above specs.

Go with a the Hard drives in above specs as well, the one in your spec is 5200 RPM rather than the 7200. This is ok for a storage / server drive, for a desktop main drive the extra speed would be prudent.

But, once you used a SSD for the operating system theres no going back :D

Yeah, not the best for boot.
Why doesn't he want an SSD? They're the things i couldn't do without for any computer, even my spare computers i turn on once/twice a month have them in! :D

The only reason i pick the Shinobi as the case for budget, it looks nice, has 3.0 connectivity and actually has a decent amount for cable tidying! The negatives is no window on the cheaper model, no fan controller and the harddrives are mouted towards the PSU in the case.

Whoops! :o

I need to change the HDD then, he has never used an SSD, and has been on an old laptop so I should think a 7200rpm will be a good enough upgrade for now!

Oh okay, I'll look at the case then.

I had a lot of problems getting all the program files redirected to my hdd with my ssd which may have put him off. Plus he's never used one, and isn't fussed about boot times etc :)
