Card for 2560x1440 gaming

they are far ahead from what Ive seen on this forum.

The top line 780's such as the evga classified and the lighting can reach 1300-1400mhz on air i think but I have not heard the 770(which is a 680 basically) get higher than 1200-1300 without water.

Also the extra power of the 780 is a decent amount I think.

I forecast that AMD will match 780-performance but at a lower price (which in turn will make nVidia drop their pricing). They've had a good 4 months or so at full whack so they can't complain too much :D

780, titan, 7970, 7990, 7950. All of them will run that res just fine. I would avoid GK104s and any 256 bit GPUs by any means for high res due to the limited bandwidth and frame pool.

Yeah, if you are going to get Nvidia I would say only a 780 really. Titans price dosnt justify the small gains over a 780 and a 770 is still 256 bit model so it will future proof you a bit should you decide to add a second. Just like the 7900 series from AMD,they tend to overclock quite a bit over their advertised stock speeds. I have 2 MSI twin frozr 780s and both hit 1250mhz/6700mhz easily so even the non high end cards have a bit legroom left in them. Having just come from crossfire 7970s and gaming at 2560x1440, both do a good job at that resolution but the 780s have been a faster and better clocking card for me personally. Plus I like physx when they bother to actually use in games these days!

Hi Boozebeard

It depends what games your looking to play to be honest. For instance a gtx 770 gets around 54FPS on BF3 at 1440p, whereas the 780 gets around 65. But on games like Civilization V the 770 gets 70fps, whereas the 780 gets over 100.

My best advice would be to check out Anandtech's GPU bench section, and compare the two cards.

I ended up jumping the gun and getting the classified as they came in stock earlier than expected. Really nice to be able to turn everything up to max at 1440 and still get 60+ FPS 90% of the time. Hitting 60fps is pretty important for me so I think if I had got anything weaker I would ahve had to start turning stuff down.

Unfortunately my case is not the greatest in terms of cooling so I have't been able to get as much OC out of it as I would have hoped but still great performance.
