Cheap/good bluray player with netflix?

Well no, because they're Blu-ray players. If someone wants a games console, they'll buy a console. Recommending a far more expensive device with superfluous features is absurd.

It's not just a game console, it's more of a home entertainment system... OP isn't even asking for "Just a blu-ray player" either.
Also, a PS3 isn't "Far more expensive" either.

I have a PS3, I know what it is. I wouldn't go recommending one to everyone who wants a Blu-ray player for their bedroom though; if he wanted to play PS3 games, he'd be buying a PS3 in the first place.

Blu-ray player with Netflix for £75 vs PS3 and a media remote for £135. Yes, it is far more expensive.

Not a deal breaker for me. I can afford the extra £10-£15 a year it's going to cost in Electricity. That's using it every day for 5 hours..

You're not NeilFawcett, in NeilFawcett's thread that NeilFawcett asked the question. Not Prophet's only point of view thats marked in stone.

Can anyone recommend a good bluray player with netflix on it? Just looking for a unit to put up in the bedroom, so doesn't need too many bells and whistles etc?

Is that question really hard to digest for, Prophet?

Just to try and put any arguments to rest, I don't want a game console in the bedroom. I understand it will offer loads more features than a regular bluray player, but I want a nice simple dedicated device that does its function (DVDs/blurays & netflix) with the minimum of fuss.

I feel the PS3 would be overkill and introduce loads of complication I'm simply not interested in.

So far that Samsung 6500 looks the best option I believe - http://www.trustedreviews.com/samsung-bd-f6500_Blu-ray-Player_review

Just to throw a spanner in the works my brother has a Ps3 and one of the older SONY blu ray players (possibly the BDP 100/ similar) and the quality from netflix is far better on the ps3!

So I'd watch out for that

Yesterday I bought myself a PANASONIC DMP-BDT130EB Blu-ray player that is on offer for £69.99. It has Netflix on it (has a dedicated Netflix button on the remote for direct access). It has 2 USB ports on the front and so far it has played every file type that I have tried like .MKV, .AVI etc

It is also 3D capable (including 2D to 3D conversion if you have a 3D TV), DLNA and has smart features so you can get apps like youtube and catch up TV. If you want Wi-Fi you would have to buy a dongle though.

Also, I bought this Blu-ray player as using my PS3 for films was getting to be too much hassle and no matter what settings I used on my PS3 (old fat version) I seemed to get judder but the Panasonic is so much smoother. For £70 I think it is a great little player.

Looks very interesting!

Only thing that makes me favour the Samsung in some ways is I believe you can make it region free. Not sure if you can do that with this Panasonic!?

note: It will have a dedicated lan connection.

Didn't mean to cause such a fuss in your thread Neil :) figured I'd mention it in case you'd overlooked it

This is obviously not relevant to the OP but there is a degree of phaff involved if you use a ps3 as a blu ray player as well as games as most tellys these days you have to switch between "game" mode and "film" mode to get the best display/input lag don't you. May even be better to have two devices so they can be on separate HDMI ports with their own display settings, or a HDMI switcher. Depends on your tolerance to menu diving on your telly I guess.

kingy, how is the DNLA for mkv's?

Sorry but I can't tell you as I don't use it yet. I have been making our bedroom into a Bedroom/home theatre room with a Benq W1070 projector and 100" motorised screen. Last weekend we finished the decorating after I had to plasterboard part of the ceiling and add extra sockets. This weekend we hope to buy a new carpet which will be the last thing before I set up the projector as I don't want to keep it out with all the dust. So, I have only had a little play with my Panasonic Blu-ray player to make sure it does what I want it to - which it does.

Smart TV = netflix for example?

So you'd recommend it then?

Ive just had a look on the Smart TV thing, and no it hasnt netflix sorry, I was so sure that I had seen it on there. So dont get a samsung bluray player with smart tv, as Im guessing none will have netflix, try a sony as they have a smart tv thing aswel.

This says the D5500 doesn't have :( - https://support.netflix.com/en/node/500

It states which models to though! eg: BD-F5500 which was recommended up the thread :) And in 1080p too!

I know this is now off topic, but just to add. I did try a Sony BD players recently (590? maybe), with a view to being able to retire my PS3 from use with Lovefilm and iPlayer streaming. Have to say that the PS3 did a MUCH better job of streaming. I'm guessing that it's got really good buffering as it suffered from ZERO dropouts and pauses, unlike the Sony BD player. For ref, I'm on Virgin fibre, 120Mb, so no excuses from the network.
