So I have an account with HSBC and I've been with them for over 10 years and am happy but I was wondering if you can have more than one account with them? I know the simple thing is to ring them but I just wanted to find out if anyone knew first before ringing them.

The reason I want to know if because I would like an account for my Direct Debits and an account for other income if that makes sense? I could transfer money to my savings account each month but it's pointless as there is no card linked with it being a savings account and all.

Usually one can be a standard account and the other a savings account. If you want you can set up an account for DD's only (account B) with another bank and just set up a DD or standing order from account A at one bank....into account B at the other bank.

That should be no problem I had 3 of my own at Barclay's and 2 for my kids that were started in relationship to my accounts because of their ages.

I'm with HSBC and I have a general account, two instant access saver accounts and one online saver account.

Four accounts. Each has their own sort and account number and all show up on the same single internet banking screen.

So yes, you can do it but I think you'll only get cards for one (I may be wrong, i've always used these other accounts for things like payments going in, separate savings, etc). Takes two seconds to transfer between them online.

I've got 3 current accounts, and online saver and a credit card with Halifax.

Ive got an online saver only with Santander and its a PITA. Everything online or on the phone and most stuff in branch requires you enter your card details to manage your account, and I dont have one. Almost worth opening a current account with them just to make it easier.

I have 4 accounts with the same bank. My current account, a savings account, a joint account with my wife and a savings account for my son.

It's perfectly normal - and online banking makes it very easy to manage.

I have 4 with Nationwide, credit and 3 debit (7 if you count savings and the like)

1 debit for shared bills money i manage
1 main that i get paid in to and use for everything
1 backup for if i lose the main. very handy if abroad

I have 5 with Barclays.

  1. Regular connect account (get paid in to this, only keep enough in there for food at work and fuel)
  2. Joint account (similar to above, only enough in there for food shopping)
  3. Bills (all bills are covered by standing orders that are fed in this account)
  4. Personal saving (remaining money is stored here, as there's no card access and secure)
  5. Joint saving (as above, all other money not used to pay bills is kept here for rainy days)

It works very well. Just have to keep an eye on your spending for a while before setting up the standing orders, so you don't underestimate the amount required.

As it stands, I've done it this way for the past 2 years and not missed a bill. I get paid, and within a day all the money required to pay bills is gone from the account, so when I check I know that the money left over is mine to spend. Plus, if your cards are compromised the accessible money is limited, and there's no overdraft.

I recommend it to anyone.
