I5 3570k at 4.2ghz stock volts, ok?

depends I suppose, for me they would just crash to desktop if slightly out with dvid voltage

if your way off with dvid then the gpu drivers fail to load at startup or it crashes pc ect

keep looking in the custom section of event viewer though, that's where you'll see them

you still have headroom for cpu voltage and temps

lol i had prime running when playing arma3 so no wonder i had 20 fps. didnt see whea errors even with prime and arma3 at same time. but didnt test a3 for long as had to go out so id say about 10-15 mins.

Still getting whea errors 19. I didnt reboot but star trek online crashed. Then upped the dvid to 0.025. Still whea errors i just noticed after doing a group elite thing in sto, didnt crash but i want the errors not to happen so i just restarted and bumped the dvid to 0.030v now.

How much do i do this till before it becomes useless or wrong and should do a different way?

Another whea 19 error well 2. When playing sto. So yet again bumping the dvid to 0.035v now. :(

Lets hope this is a keeper and temps arnt too bad.

Running prime atm and it says 1.200-1.212v in cpuz. Is this going ok or do i need to do somit else for stability? Or is it just a matter of keep upping the dvid till never a whea error anymore when gaming?

Edit - 2 more when playing sto. Yet another bump time. So i guess im up to 0.040v now. Tho the volts in cpuz when priming is still about 1.212v max?

Edit 2 - another whea. :( Up to 0.045v now. I hope theres not much more to go as last one was lookin good a few stfs and no whea but then just as i alt and tabbed to chat to a mate on steam a whea popped up. :( Hope this ones the charm.

Doing prime again to see how volts go up and in cpuz its still 1.212v :( Why didnt it increase with 0.040 and now 0.045?

ok ill try it.

So ive set it to 1.220 in bios. In cpuz its showing 1.224v and jumps to 1.236v doing prime. Is this about right or should it be lower. I still have LLC to high still from previous settings and the other settings i was told like pwm phase to ext perf etc.

Btw i think my stock volts are 1.080v as in bios thats what it shows next to cpu volts setting. Duno if thats the usual one for all 3570ks but thought id mention it anyhow.

just to note,i can bench mine stable @4.5ghz with just 1.188v

but to be fully error free I need 1.212v,each cpu is different in how much voltage it needs

its personal choice whether to use fixed or offset but ive never yet had issues with offset

you can test if you have the time, fixed vs dvid

Ill see how i go, thanks for the help so far wazza its been great advice. I think i was nearing it to stable as less and less wheas when doing elite stf missions in sto which seem to show them was a reliable method i think. Tho little confused when i upped the dvid to 0.040 and 0.045 it was still 1.212v. It might have become stable around 0.050 dvid i dunno.

Im gona try fixed see how that goes for now as said im at 1.220 in bios and whatever i said above for when in prime blend test. Ill try some stfs when i have time as going out soon.

strange,i find no difference with mine,fixed/offset still needs 1.38v

did you test all llc/offset combos? sometimes that helps with using lower overall cpu voltage

Ok tested with 1.220v and was stable afaik.

Tested with 1.215 with llc set to medium to try. Stable afaik. No whea errors when playing sto which usually used to result in whea errors after 1 elite stf match and i had played 3 or so.

Testing now 1.210 atm. Will game a bit after prime for 10 mins and a quick ibt blast. At this volt in bios im seeing in core temp vid 1.1659 and in cpuz im seeing about 1.200-1.212v.

So far fixed volts seem to be more stable than dvid so far for me.

Got my 3570K @ 4.0 on 1.080V setting all cores to turbo to 40 (for now). If I leave it on auto voltage it jumps to ~1.25V. I'd prefer it to power down the voltage when it's not at 4.0 but I guess that's not possible. Surely they could put a max voltage setting in the bios then the user can set everything as they like with that ceiling and power usage rises/falls as necessary? Mobo is Z77X-UD5H.

I wonder how much it extra power its using from 1.080 to 1.210. I mean would the bill for electric really be much different between these ranges? Compared to when it could downclock if u used dvid method?

Also so far yes 1.210v for 4.5ghz. Just played a bit of arma 3. Not played sto yet for whea cheacking but im a bit exhausted from playing sto to test for the last two days.

idk,ive never tested running full voltage, cant see it being much higher, though mine says it uses 8w for cpu at idle in aida64

1.200 in bios now. Did 3 stfs in sto and no whea errors. I did notice vdroop with 1.200 tho with llc on medium but doesnt seem to cause issues or whea errors so maybe ok i dunno. So yeah when at load like ibt or prime i noticed the vcore on cpuz showing 1.188v down from 1.200 idle volts.

Prime blend tested for 30 mins fine and ibt test for standard was fine for 10 normal runs as it does.

Max temps when gaming was 60 59 55 58, tho i do have the heating on at the mo as its a bit cold lately.

Nice that i didnt get whea errors at 1.200 volts tho. ;) Looks promising that i might be able to go under 1.2v with this at 4.5ghz using fixed volts. Whilst not ideal for idle like but still. If it doesnt cost that much extra say an extra few quid a year like then i dont mind. Tho if over a fiver extra a year i might not use it i dunno.

Anyhow. Just thought id keep this updated with each step incase it helps ppl as well as documenting my oc trip to 4.5ghz.
