AMD Hawaii is 30% smaller than Kepler GK110

Who needs a titan killer when you can buy 3 7970 for the same price as a titan and it would just rip a titan to pieces all be ot with higher power consumption and more heat.

3x7950 are pretty much overkill for any normal set up.
still you can buy 4x7950 even cheaper here than a Titan.....
so anyone buying a Titan havent checked the performance you get.

However a trifire is the balanced output :D

what he said was that the 290x will be fast and I place it above 780 and if they price it decently, it be a winner.

Running RTW2 I think a single Titan is a better bet than even 4 HD 7970s

Check the vram usage

Horses for courses.:D:)

TBH i would rather spent 1000 dollars on 1 super performing card than having to mess with 4 in crossfire or sli and all the issues such as powerdraw and heat that you would have to deal with.
:D

Finally a genuine reason to buy a Titan. :p
Buy a titan because the game is mess??

Four graphics cards in Rome Total War 2 sounds like a blast. LOL.

'Fits like a glove, on a ******* foot'!

No way, bag a HD 7950 and turn the settings down a touch.:D

I finally find a game that can really use the Titans vram and the game does not support SLI.:(

Yes i know was just joking. :p

Can you not force SLI to work by using a different profile or creating your own? (albeit with low scaling)

I know you were joking, I have not stopped laughing at a new game like RTW2 being so poor with SLI, Capped FPS and rubbish GPU usage.:D

I am not that bothered really, it plays with acceptable fps @1600p maxed no problem.

I would be a bit upset if it was a game like BF3/4.:D

AMD Volcanic Islands Codename GPU Model Refreshed Part
Hawaii R9 290X None -True HD 7970 Successor
Hawaii R9 290 None -True HD 7950 Successor
Tahiti XTL R9 280X HD 7970
Tahiti XT R9 280 HD 7950
Curacao XT R9 270X HD 7870
Curacao Pro R9 270 HD 7850
Bonaire XTX R7 260X HD 7790
Oland XT R7 250 HD 6670
Oland Pro R7 240 HD 6570

I think people are underestimating the speed of AMD Hawaii.

It seems the card based on the salvage part is faster than a refreshed HD7970.

best hope it doesnt out run a titan, or it will out price a titan too ;)

Are these going to remain 3gb cards. I kind of want to run tripple 1440p monitors... and really thats titan realm... and well... yeah.. expensive :P

4 things

Heat
Power
Motherboard compatibility
Multi gpu scaling issue

In ideal world i would always stick to a single card

If your a true enthusiast heat and power use are of secondary importance behind performance but it very rarely makes sense to buy a setup that relies on multi GPU to do similiar to what you can do with 1 card.

or it could be that people are overestimating the speed of AMD Hawaii.

Think of it this way the R9 280x is going to be a 7970, now if that means a stock 7970 then it could be said at this time Nvidia has 5 cards that are faster the 680, 770,780,titan and 690.

The 7970 was bigger than the 680 and it was slower until overclocking or the 7970 GHz Ed put it firmly ahead, so a chip that is 30% smaller than the GK110 even with improvements I cant see it being faster at all.

Of course hopefully I am wrong and AMD will blow us all away with something special .

Pricing is the key really. Take the GTX770 and GTX780 for example...they are great cards "performance wise", but after looking at the asking prices, they become kinda "meh".

Yup it is all going to come down to price and judging by some of AMD launch prices it could be very bad FX9590 anyone :p

Early adopting could be a hazardous proposition.

I really do hope I'm wrong.
