Places to visit in Paris

Any recommendations other than the usual tourist attractions?

I went to Paris a couple of years ago and just by luck came across this funny replica of the Blackpool tower. It was quite tall but I don't think many people have heard of it. Worth seeing but probably not as good as Blackpool's. Can't remember exactly where it was though, sorry.

Tour Montparnasse is about a million times less busy than the Tour Eiffel, but with as good / arguably better views from the large flat roof.

Was in Paris last week. Louvre has some good Egyptian stuff that's worth a look after you've done the obligatory visit to moaning lisa. Musée d'Orsay is a nice building, and some of the Monet's aren't too bad. As-well as all the attractions, I really liked just wondering the streets, finding markets, having wine and food on a street cafe, and shopping etc.
If you want to do the Eiffel Tower you'd be best booking, as last week the queues were still quite big.
I did loads of walking around (as the city is quite flat and compact compared with most), and it's a good idea to get a weeks unlimited-travel ticket for the metro.

Oh and keep your eyes open for scammers. Even last week there were still quite a few around (I was expecting them to have gone now the summer's over). The gypsies selling you a fake ring that someone has dropped on the pavement, and the africans selling various wares who will then run when plod comes by.

Eiffel tower, walk up the first couple of levels and take the lift to the top. Versaille is also a good day out.

Last time we went we got a pass for the Batobus by the way. Very useful as it goes up and down the Seine, stopping off at all the main sites along the way. And a bit more interesting / pleasant than the bus / metro.

1) Do not take the RED tour bus (or ANY tour bus for that matter). They are absolutely horrible and a scandalous rip off. They have english audio spoken by a french woman with an obvious french accent making it hard to understand anything, literally next to no information (it only speaks to say the names of the monuments and maaaaybe one fact about them) and the rest of the time it plays tinny horrible quality classic music on loop. It was the worst bus tour ever - and I enjoy doing these things in general.

2) Eiffel tower, it's going to be a long wait but worth it..

3) Catacombs, I tried going but the queue was more than 300 people long, which meant a couple of hours of waiting, so I left..

4) Louvre, is definitely worth a visit but you need a whole day for it

5) Versailles, worth a visit of course

6) Notre Damme, very nice and worth a visit

7) Walk around Champs Elysse, grand palace and to the Eiffel tower, very nice walk, worth it

8) Eurostar to London: priceless..

Seriously, Parisians are rude, unbelievably poor in hygiene (get on their tube and you'll see what I mean) and their customer service is infamously horrible. Prepare to be completely ignored if you don't speak french and for some very dirty waiters and waitresses (handling your glasses and bottles from the rim and the top with open palms etc..).

It's worth a visit, Paris, but not much more..

Could visit the Centre Georges Pompidou. Another cool area to walk around is Rue Des Ecoles, close to the Notre Dame but a little quieter, right by the university, lots of shops and restaurants to walk around, also a restaurant I can recommend is Les Dingues in Rambouillet, had the best steak there!

Go to the cheese museum, the surrender museum and the monkey museum, accoriding the Duke of Edinburgh this will teach you all you need to know about France.
