I just watched this and though it was pretty darned cool so I thought I would share it and perhaps get an interesting discussion out of it...

Just the changing political face of Europe over what is essentially a heartbeat in Earth's history illustrates just how fragile and ethereal our accepted way of life really is....Just imagine if Genghis Khan had not have died when he did etc...

why make a video surely a website with a slider would be better? they could have made it so you hoover over a country and it tells you why the last region change happened

How many times did Poland get wiped off the map? I lost count lol

The fact that Poland could amass such an empire and lose it completely and the total fragmentation of central Europe is something that many people don know or realise. And the Golden Horde were simply immense considering they were nomads.

It looks cool but you do need to sit down with a historical atlas (or similar) to find out what actually happened to make some sense of it.

this

either i am too tired but i cant see a date?

tbh its too much to take in!
you really need a series of videos with only one power highlighted ..especially for someone who isnt good with history specifics like me
too long to watch a hundred times

but it is agreat vid

Poland-Lithuania were pretty strong but since Russians took them on, they became insignificant and just got bent over in every war...

I can't wait for Biohazard to see this and throw a fit because the "present" map doesn't show Scotland apart from GB.....

Very interesting though, especially how the larger countries split up into smaller regions occasionally.

The fragmentation of central Europe and the Germanic regions is amazing to see. Not surprising some small parts such as Lichtenstein and San Marino persisted, there were so many fiefdoms, and barony etc. Amazing. I have little to no knowledge of this time within history.

They on the map now is all that matters. Let's not forget the Solidarność movement pretty much marked the end of the USSR and the Cold War and the fact the Polish squadron in WW2 Battle of Britain helped Britain not get wiped off the map :P
