Just been involved in a 'hit an run'

Annoys the hell out of me when people drive off thinking they can get away, Am surprised the police wouldn't take your video evidence even though nobody was hurt it's still an offence to drive away from a RTA, If it was me I'd be writing to my local MP and asking why the police wouldn't take video evidence from your wife whilst involved in a hit and run and ask your MP if Section 170 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 is not taken seriously any more by refusing evidential proof.

Hope all works out well, good luck mate.

I don't think that video shows anything useable. I can't see anything that would suggest it was the Micra that rear ended your wifes car.

Not in itself, he has the registration though. If he/the police can locate the Micra asap they will find the corresponding damage. That, + video + statement from the witness who stopped in front would be pretty damning.

Take your laptop with video down to the station tomorrow, show footage and kick up a fuss.

We have been chatting to a friend and their brother (long link!) is a copper and he said it sounds like we have been fobbed off and to take in the relevant paperwork tomorrow morning and make sure its looked into further so we will be doing that.

With regards to the video - it doesn't show the actual accident (I think I will be investing in a rear facing camera next time!) it does show afterwards and at least is somewhere to start with and hopefully if they can find the Micra with a bashed up front end it would hardly look great on them!

It might not show damage on the Micra but it's pretty obvious that car was behind her as that's the next one to pass, otherwise the OP wouldn't be here as they'd be dealing with the battering ram in question :)

5-8 seconds clear shows her coming to a near stop then a sudden jolt of acceleration, it even shows that the contact was more so on the passenger side of vehicle as is pushed to the right

at 2s it couldnt be clearer the audi was looking to move out. at 5s brake lights are on ahead and it takes until 6s until shes on the brakes hard. it looks like she was so pre-occupied with not letting the audi out which lead to the late braking when she realised the beetle had stopped.

the same applied to the car behind, not watching the car ahead, and bam

This really,

Everybody involved is so preoccupied with stopping the Audi from pulling out that they concertina on themselves!

Serves them all bloody right IMO! :p

Try being a bit more considerate in future! it is the best way of avoiding accidents! ;)

Can't help thinking ,having viewed the video, this is pretty much spot on.

and it and weight to the reason why insurers "penalise" those involved in accidents even if they didnt cause them

im not saying the micra should have driven into your car, but the whole thing was avoidable. where i live i see drivers with such a pre occupation to make lives more difficult for others all the time and its why drivers should be more considerate, not just to make others lives easier, but to make the whole place safer

...Takes some nerve to just drive off and I can't believe the police aren't interest. ......

It is just "fail to stop and exchange details" for what at this time is a damage only collision. It will get dealt with but not in a hurry.
You could argue that the driver didn't stop to check if anyone was actually injured but as they weren't, it can be dealt with in slow time.

Police wouldn't be interested in the video yet either, that can be requested when they actually get around to starting the investigation.

What ?

Someone leaving a parking space has to yield to all other traffic, why on earth should they do anything but ignore the Audi ? The Audi pulling out is nobody's bloody problem but the Audi's...

Fair enough about the failing to look ahead, but saying it serves them right for not letting someone who has no right of way out?

That video doesn't show squat.

Did the Beetle driver see the Micra hit your wife and have damage?

There's no evidence in the video to show that it was the Micra at fault so I hope you have witnesses!

Hope you get it sorted.

the witness in the beetle ? OP's wife ? the damage that could have been found by using a few minutes of police work (typing the reg in then sending someone to the address)

From the video looks as though your wife is trying to close the gap on the beetle as to not let the Audi pull out. She even has to brake hard in order to avoid going into the back of the beetle! What's the point in people driving like this? Audi driver probably seen everything, but thought sod it, she's purposely not let me pull out, so why should I help her out here!

That doesn't excuse the other driver leaving the scene.

and im with the phone the local paper brigade on this one. or mp if you believe in those sorts

if people allow themselves to be fobbed off they will just keep fobbing us off
