Just been involved in a 'hit an run'

What ?

Someone leaving a parking space has to yield to all other traffic, why on earth should they do anything but ignore the Audi ? The Audi pulling out is nobody's bloody problem but the Audi's...

Fair enough about the failing to look ahead, but saying it serves them right for not letting someone who has no right of way out?

But they didn't "Ignore" the Audi did they! They all sped up (And in particular the camera car), To close the gap that, had they maintained a constant speed, would have provided ample room for the Audi to pull out into! (especially if encouraged by a quick flash (which I know isn't in the code but...))

That is the behaviour of selfish gits! Especially since they were all going to have to stop anyway in what is clearly stop/start traffic!

Just because somebody has the "Right" to be a selfish git doesn't mean it represents reasonable behaviour!

I am under no legal obligation to let old people/Mothers with children cross busy roads either. But I generally do!

All parties involved should take the medicine and be more considerate in the future! It makes everybodys' life easier! But I suspect none of them will. the sense of entitlement will likely be far to strong with them!

However the OP's wife chooses to drive, the Micra should have been paying attention and maintaining proper distance. For all we know the Micra was trying to do exactly the same and keep the Audi from merging in, which meant they were too close and didn't react in time.

Leaving the Audi thing aside (I agree with what others have said on that matter), please, please, please, OP do not let this drop and chase every avenue you can i.e. senior police, press, twitter, MP, etc. You shouldn't have to, but do it anyway.

That Micra driver needs their licence taken away. Maybe next time it'll be a child they hit and run.

Why its all very well contacting the police and you should continue to push the issue with them, you must report this to your insurer ASAP.

I cant make out from your posts whether you already have, but just explain the full situation give them the other drivers reg and car description and explain they failed to stop. Your insurer will be all over this, these are the situations you pay your premium for. If the other driver is insured, your insurer will be straight onto their insurer, which will then get hold of the driver. Failing that, they will help pursue it with the police.

If it wasn't a smart car, and a normal car with a normal length bonnet. Then I'm guessing the beetle would probably have a mark on the rear bumper from how close the OP's wife got before slamming on the brakes?

None of this excuses the Micra's actions, but it's clear to see there was still driver error from the OP's wife...

The video is all sorts of wrong. I'm not sure I would use the police if possible as due care and attention might be brought up.

A few thing's to note, first stop listening to Gary Barlow. Second is the Merc passing the other way a Bobby?

I am of this opinion also, had the OPs wife not have been selfish chances are she wouldn't have been rear ended... I bet the audi driver had a giggle.

However, irrespective of that, the person behind was not paying attention, and did not stop - which is worse than being a little selfish.

That road is minging with the turning in the middle, so many people just suddenly turn without indicating. Seen someone a week or so ago come out the pub, attempt to go straight across and miss a car by cm that was going to swing though without indicating.

All the remarks about letting the Audi out are null void. The Audi is parked up and should wait for a clear 'safe' gap to move into before even starting to move off. I can see it edging out when there clearly isn't a safe gap, at least not in my opinion. The Audi driver seems to be quite a bolshy driver for trying to force their way out in the first place so do you really expect people to sympathise and just let them out? No one likes to be bullied into making decisions. So why people are bashing the OP's wife I have no idea. She has right of way regardless in that situation.

I hope the police do come good for you on this matter OP however as others have said I think with just your word and the video it wouldn't be enough evidence and you'd need a third party witness. Here's hoping for a good outcome for you though.

How can you even tell this Audi driver is being "bolshy". You don't even know how long he/she has been waiting to pull out. Yes the OP's wife has right of way, but it's common courtesy to let a car out if it's indicating, even more so if the road ahead is not clear and has slow moving traffic. The video is clear that the OP's wife speeds up to close the gap between herself and the beetle. Why? What was gained? And clearly the Micra behind did the same thing. Again Why?

I honestly am amazed at some people on here. Forget the bad driving or whatever and accident is an accident and if the Micra was the car fleeing the scene this is a offence, this could have been a new mum with a baby in the car or anything. Its appalling behavior.

incidentally what dash cam is this?

I would be back on the phone to the police and speak to a sergeant to ask why a hit and run has not been followed up. Evidence is on the front of the Micra that it had a collision that will back up the camera showing it was at the scene, and shot up the first left turn to get out the way quick.

Good luck with the claim.

Without the evidence on the front of that car its not going to go down well, if that were me it would be getting repaired today. Then you just have a video of someone passing you. Doubt the car in front saw who hit you, and no passengers count as a witness.
Shouldn't have pulled over to allow the car passed and got out ASAP to get details.

Should she of drove on and blocked the road off?

What a silly comment.

Edit: just re-read it over, i read it wrong. You mean she should have just got out of the car straight away and tried to get the other cars details. could have ended worse if she just got out straight away with the other driver panicking and driving off, so good job she didn't.
