Does anybody know if Sky have sorted dd 5.1 audio over HDMI yet for the Samsung Sky HD receivers? I am starting to feel a little disgruntled that as a long term Sky customer I am always last to receive any updates or performance enhancements.

Thanks, Andy.

20 seconds, you ought to learn to type faster!

I actually read that article before posting here. I don't think the article is anymore than somebody pulling various speculation or old news together. The article was published in August and referred to the DRX boxes being updated over the next "few months" when in fact the updates to the DRX boxes started in March this year. Also since the Samsung receiver is allegedly (according to the article) going to be updated later this autumn I would suggest that a "few months" from August isn't too far off from "later in the autumn" so something doesn't add up and the article lacks any credibility in my opinion.

I was hoping for some real insight as to what was happening but thanks all the same.

I didn't want you to feel bad before.

Google - too quick to mention - SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE - this, direct from the horses mouth.

Try a forced firmware update. But if that doesn't do it then you're just going to have to wait.

BTW, DD still works via optical/coax you know. If you have a proper surround system then that's the solution in the meantime. If you're listening via the TV speakers then DD won't make that much difference (if any). This isn't an exhaustive list of course. But if you're stressing about removing one cable from your system then it might offer some temporary respite.

I've seen that as well but I want more specific dates. Forcing the download is a risky strategy as it depends what is on the download stream and that could over write any update which has been downloaded but pending installation / activation. Already hooked up by optical but with HDMI I can go through the TV and then optical out from the TV to the 5.1. That way all of the HDMI devices feeding the TV can then be linked to he 5.1 via the TV (as the TV passes the 5.1 signal through from the HDMI to the optical out) and it tidies the whole setup up a bit.

I guess I'll just have to wait.

Let us know when your Samsung gets updated, my Pace will probably be updated "a few months" after that.

Are you sure your TV with pass through a 5.1 signal to it optical output...

as most TV's will only pass through a 2.1 or stereo signal through there optical output...

The biggest question here is why are you guys running these crummy old boxes given that sky give boxes away for free?

Just call sky and demand a new one, say your existing is intermittently faulty. You'll get a DRX890W gratis which is faster and has a wireless dongle built in too for good measure. There is zero point running anything other than the latest receiver. Either that or just leave and rejoin.

Yes it works, I have tested it with 5.1 over hdmi from my blu-ray player to the tv and then optical from the tv to the surround sound.

How do we tell what Sky HD Box we have? IE, samsung, pace etc... coz mine has 5.1 support since it was installed the beginning of the month.

Any box from the past year or so will be a Sky one, they bought out Amstrad's manufacturing division and stopped having any other companies manufacture Sky boxes.

I have a Samsung issue also, with a Sky HD drx890wc box when used with a TV - Samsung ue48h6400 and Sounbase- Samsung hw-h600.

TV is connected to Sky via hdmi, TV to soundbase ARC hdmi (Also tried 'soundshare').

When I change the Digital Audio Output - HDMI setting on my sky box to DOLBY D I get sound (via the soundbase) for SD channels but when I switch to HD no sound.

So should I run an optical from the Sky box to the soundbase or from the TV to the soundbase ?.

Forums are full of such issues - for Sky and Virgin boxes, have not found a solution.

Thanks
