Just been involved in a 'hit an run'

No stay put while you get the details and check everyone is okay, check car is okay to move, then move the car if safe to do so.

Because accidents never block roads do they?

Can't believe some people are arguing over letting the Audi slug in and calling it selfish and other nonsense, guaranteed none of them practice the way they are preaching nor are perfect drivers.

OP I hope you push on with this, get the address of the driver ASAP and pay a visit and get some pictures if possible before they repair it or something, it's outrageous that someone would have the nerve to drive off like that after hitting someone.

Shouldn't have pulled over to allow the car passed and got out ASAP to get details.

That would have blocked the entire road, pulling to the side is normal procedure, if the car is in a condition to do so after the collision.

Also hindsight is a gift and all, but if I'd just been hit from behind, I'd be turning that dash cam around :P

Which is what i just said. How do you know the condition of the car without getting out and having a look?

Well I think you know from the impact whether it's able to drive. I was kinda referring to higher speed accidents where the wheels come off/are smashed in.

No, it's just stuff like that which puts the driver in an unnecessary risky situation of speeding up to close the gap and slamming on the brakes which probably caught the Micra out, I'm guessing the driver wasn't insured so just done a runner instead. Maybe it'll make people think twice about putting themselves at risk just to be awkward to other road users.

I would have stopped immediately where I was as long as it wasn't dangerous, I don't care if I block the road off.

yeah, my mistake i read it wrong. The irony of my reply is very high :p

Read it as she shouldn't have stopped and tried to get details??? Still reads like that to me but i now understand what he ment :)

Not sure why people have such a thing about not letting people out, makes you look silly when you speed up quick and slam the anchors on just to not let someone in.

She could have quite easily drove slower and not let the Audi guy in, don't think it makes a difference in regards to letting the Audi driver in or not, just a bad decision to speed up like that, she didn't crash her self into the Beetle. The Micra driver must have been going too fast or not paid any attention to crash like that in a traffic moving less than 10 mph. I don't see how the Smart driver can be blamed in anyway. I see far worse driving everyday in London, with loads of sudden acceleration and braking by drivers, you just need keep your distance and anticipate, for me its "normal".

Nah, its cold and wet and the Smart car is fitted with bike tyres and weighs about as much. It wouldn't take a lot to get pushed into the Beetle.

Waiting for the OP to update that everyone in the Audi and the VW driver have made whiplash claims.

not surprised she got rear ended with her bad braking.

Irrelevant. The car behind should have left enough space.

The Audi "letting in or not" debate is also irrelevant.

Regardless of any of this, this is till a hit and run, and the person behind is necessarily at fault for not leaving enough braking space.

It's all terrible driving

The Audi shouldn't be nudgiing out to go up the other way
The Beetle shouldn't have moved over sped up then slammed the brakes on
Ditto camera car
The Micra and the Nissan obviously did the same
The Focus shouldn't be doing a U turn where they have to back out again onto the major road

Shows the level of competence on our roads.

How can you even tell this Audi driver is being "bolshy". You don't even know how long he/she has been waiting to pull out. Yes the OP's wife has right of way, but it's common courtesy to let a car out if it's indicating, even more so if the road ahead is not clear and has slow moving traffic. The video is clear that the OP's wife speeds up to close the gap between herself and the beetle. Why? What was gained? And clearly the Micra behind did the same thing. Again Why?

Watch the video. To me that looks like the type of driver who thinks as soon as their indicator is on it gives them god given right to pull out. His front wheel is constantly moving and actually causes the beetle to move to the side a little due to this. I always thought that you put your indicator on to 'indicate' that you intend to make a manuever and then wait for a safe time to make it. Edging and forcing your way out says bolshy to me I'm afraid. That is just how I perceive things from that video.

Irrespective of any of this and how the OP's wife braked hard it is still 100% the Micra drivers fault for going into the back of her.

Of course it's the Mirca's fault 100% but I'd rather actually avoid the situation in the first place by not brake testing it.
