Just been involved in a 'hit an run'

Can't believe some people are arguing over letting the Audi slug in and calling it selfish and other nonsense, guaranteed none of them practice the way they are preaching nor are perfect drivers.

OP I hope you push on with this, get the address of the driver ASAP and pay a visit and get some pictures if possible before they repair it or something, it's outrageous that someone would have the nerve to drive off like that after hitting someone.

Pretty much this, the Audi driver doesn't matter.

Someone hit you and drove off. This forum comes out with some really stupid things at times. Petty little arguments and silly comments from people on their high horses who probably drive in the same way

I think it's fair to point out that such things can be avoided, and maybe a few people that drive so defensively can learn a lesson because morons like this exist, they will hit you and they will drive off.

And no, I don't drive like that. And no, I'm not on my high horse.

Did you get the Audi drivers details? Surely they must have been in the best place to witness it.

Without the evidence on the front of that car its not going to go down well, if that were me it would be getting repaired today. Then you just have a video of someone passing you. Doubt the car in front saw who hit you, and no passengers count as a witness.
Shouldn't have pulled over to allow the car passed and got out ASAP to get details.

20 seconds in you can see the crumpled bonnet on the micra...

Have you ever driven around Birmingham or London? The driving standards are absolutely shocking. People are always in a hurry and nobody gives a toss about one another, what happened in the video is bound to happen eventually.

Pointing out what the OPs Girlfriend/Wife is/was doing wrong isn't going to help in this situation!

I live in Harrow, I drive through West London regularly. I would never think of slamming on my brakes like that because no one pays attention. Yes it's bound to happen but you you dart to the back of a car and slam on the anchors you are going to catch someone out. I could have had loads of 'non fault' accidents but I'd rather just have my wits about me avoid such things.

It won't help in this situation but it'll probably stop something like this happening again.

At the risk of igniting a fire, the bad driving in London and Birmingham is probably due to foreigners. If you look at driving on the continent, it's a considerably lower standard. That way of driving comes over here with them.

Especially when you consider the driving in places like India where the driving is pretty much every man for himself.

The camera car could have managed to defend their position on the road without the harsh acceleration and braking. But even if they hadn't been able to stop the Audi coming out, my question would be "so what"? What have you actually achieved by stopping someone pulling out in front of you in traffic?

Try to imagine the same scenario without the Audi even there, and then look at the camera car's driving. Seems silly, no?

I used to visit Greenford/Eailing/Harrow/Southall very regularly as the Ex lived there.

I couldn't believe my eyes, the driving standard was every man/woman for themselves. If people wanted to come out of a side road, they just did! They'd pull out, and hold the traffic up until they could find a space on the other side. It was just insane. I kept getting told that was 'Normal' . Indicators seemed to be none existent as well!

That relationship lasted well, considering I lived 170+ miles away in the countryside :D

Precisely this^

I really don't see the need to accelerate to close a gap and end up having to slam the brakes on to prevent a crash, which inevitably ends up in having a crash anyway.

In hindsight, had the OP's wife maintained her speed, or even slowed down to let the Audi slip in without affecting her life in anyway shape or form, would have prevented this.

Be realistic, no one's sped up to prevent an accident, everyones sped up to not let the Audi in, to be spiteful, now the Audi is off the other way laughing.

The driving in that video is exactly what annoys me more than anything else on the road - people do it to me all the time around where I live and it drives me mental. Anyone who purposely speeds up or changes direction to not let someone in and then has an accident gets absolutely no sympathy from me I'm afraid, regardless of fault. If I was the Q7 driver I'd be ****ing myself laughing.

I'm slightly confused why a lot of the posts seem to be going the direction of having a go at the OPs wife!

Let's just all bear in mind that it was her right of way over the Audi and there was no need for her to let it pull out. Like wise, until the road was clear (unlikely) there was no reason for it to be moving out unless clearly invited.

The micra should have read the traffic ahead and seen that it wasn't moving forwards, not just relied on the car in front.

Nobody is saying she should have let the Audi out. The Audi had nothing to do with the collision and shouldn't be considered in that way. It was a potential hazard at the side of the road. The question should be whether or not it is sensible to deliberately and aggressively drive yourself toward that hazard?

As for your final comment, the same is applicable to the camera car.

You have to admit though, that Audi's trollface as it drove away from the accident must have been bigger than Jupiter.

Yeah it would have been a sight to see!

We've all been there where we've been stuck in traffic and you're fed up with people pushing their way in front of you, but equally I'm sure we've all been there where we've been frustratedly waiting to get into a lane of slow moving traffic and people keep closing the door like in the OP.

A little bit more give and less take from a large proportion of drivers would certainly make the roads run a bit more smoothly sometimes. (see merge in turn, joining motorways/dual carriageways, blocking junctions, not letting people in front of you etc.)

Wifey was driving like a bit of a **** to be fair OP :p

Totally agree that it's not her fault though and no excuse for the hit and run behaviour from that Micra driver.

Epic trollface for the Audi driver also lol, someone should make a gif from the youtube video :D

Al this arguing is very interesting (read: boring) and all, but what I'd like is an update from the OP on whether they've got the fuzz interested in pursuing this further yet.
