Hi i am new to the forums (had an account with OC since 2009 but had technical problem with forum account) so excuse me if i sound like a noob.

I have an AMD HD 7950 and thinking of getting another one to cf but was wondering about a few things.

1. Is this worth it? I mean should i not bother spending another £180 on a GPU thats almost 2 years old?

2. How is the driver for cf? I heard that the performance gain was only about 35%. Is this true?

3. What are the psu requirements for cfing two HD 7950? I have a coolermaster silent pro 850w is this ok?

4. Does this fit on my mobo? As these cards are huge, not mention the odd cooler shape. My mobo is an Asus p8p67 pro and my case is a Corsair graphite 600t.

Thanks.

System spec:

Intel i5 2500k sandybrige 3.3ghz cpu
2TB Hard Drive
AMD HD 7950 HiS Ice Q Boost 3GB gpu
Asus p8p67 pro mobo
32gb Kingston Hyper X Gensises RAM
256GB Samsung 830 SSD
Corsair graphite 600t special edition
Coolermaster Silent Pro 850W
Akasa Venom Voodoo Cooler

1. The 7950 is the best bang for buck at the monent so yea they are worth it

2. I had problems with drivers before the 13.8 betas but now i have no issues

3. 850w is plenty

4. Should be enough room, watch out for temperatures

Id personally think about upgrading your CPU cos you will experience bottleneck, i had an i5 2500k and experienced severe bottleneck, got 50-60% usage on games like Arma 2 + 3, Witcher 2 and Final Fantasy XIV. You need an i7 2600k/2700k

hope this helps

1. 2x7950's currently provides the best bang for your buck by a long way. 2x7950's cost the same as one 770 and with a slight overclock it will offer double the performance.

2. Drivers are good. Scaling with crossfire is superb. Take a look at my post here about scaling with crossfire. All gaming evolved titles you can expect 94-99% scaling with. Nvidia titles your mileage will vary i find. Generally not as well optimized. Most games scale well, but not all.

3. Plenty.

4. Will fit fine. I have the same case and the same mobo, except i have the deluxe version. If you want to cool your cards a bit better with that case, remove the side window and add the grill. Add 4x120mm fans as intake. You'll need to buy the 600t dmc dust filter set. You should also remove all the pci-e brackets at the back to allow more exhaust area for the gpu's.

Thanks for the replies and yeah my CPU is old :( .Is there any website that gives me a brief idea of what temperatures the two cards make?

Oops didnt realise that there were temperatures on LtMatt's Link. Thanks btw does Shogun 2 go into the gaming evolved category? And LtMatt what CPU cooler and fan are you using? YOu got some nice CPU temps :)

Shogun 2 is not a gaming evolved title, but it does have a fully working crossfire profile which on old drivers had 80% crossfire scaling. I would expect that to have increased a little bit on todays drivers.

Hello Sir. I have the same setup as you. I am thinking of upgrading to a 3770K. I am doing more VE for my tab2. I have noticed since going to 13.8 my frame rates have dropped. I.E M:LL 48 to 41 most other games COJ: GS
F1:10-12 Tomb Raader etc..95% of the games played, benchedmarked better on a single 7950. Will this cure my problem or go back to older drivres.
Cheers
