I'm building a spec together a friend. He wants the system to be able to play the lates games, video editing and uaing adobe creative suite 6 etc. He also woul like to over clock the system in the future and wants the system to last 5+ years. This is what ive come up with so far and would like suggestions from more knowledgable enthusiasts.

Motherboard-Asus-Z87-MAXIMUS-VI-EXTREME
CPU -Intel-Core-i7-4770K
RAM -Kingston-HyperX-Beast-16GB-2400MHZ-DDR3-CL11
SSD -OCZ-Vertex-450-7mm-256GB-SATA-III-2-5-inch-Solid-State-Drive
GPU -msi gtx 770 4gb
PSU -Corsair RM1000 1000W Power Supply 80 Plus Gold
Tower -Corsair Obsidian 900D Gaming Black Full Tower Case.

Additionally i have 1 q- the gpu has 2 bin connectors but the psu only has 2 6 pin connectors thus i want to know if i have chosen the correct psu or do u need adaptor ports to connect the gpu to the cpu?

thank you for your time

Budget?

That 1000W PSU is massive overkill for that system, and will be using LN2 (the only real benefit from that board from most other Z87 boards as the voltage regulator is actually housed in the CPU its self so on air or water most boards will hit the thermal limit of the CPU rather then the limits of the motherboard first).

his budget is about £2000. i said the motherboard was overkill but he was adament on having this one. What PSU and motherboard recomend ?

Why is he adament? Is it the Black and red colour scheme, if so there are many other cheasper black and red board which will suffice. :)

When I get home (or maybe at lunch time ;)) I will try to create you a spec.... if Doomedspeed or Snips86X don't beat me to it. :p

Be Quick. :p

Best to get x2 770's with 4gb vram each or x2 780's with 3gb vram each?

thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it :)

coolsurfer - all i can say for that build is DAMN!!!, i wish i had the dough for that build and i really like the case with the blue led lit fan at the front.

doomedspeed - thats an excellent spec you've put together, thank you. and th addition of watercooling in definately a plus.

gaming resolution will most likely be at 1080p.

i myself thought the case was overkill aswell, i'll run the spec by him when i see him after work this evening and i'll let you guys know how things went.

ethermaster - i wait to see your spec.

i always presumed all in one water cooling would be more expensive, not that this is cheap :). i remember a friend in rochdale bought an £1700 rig and payed £230 on top for water cooling.

Ethers spec will be worth waiting for turst me (though i will still prefer mine :))

YOur friend may have got a custom watercooling kit which will have a pump/res/rads/tubing/fittings/waterblock and need self assembly (and filling). where as these All-in-one cooler are pre-filled (sealed) and just require mounting into the case. :)

Easy!

As its OCUK made, they have picked the best pump and paried ita great rad and tubing to look awesome. :)

2 x 770's may be a little overkill for 1080p ...Let us know what res it is and what his plans are becuase you could easily run triple screen from this rig..

Bye bye, Black and Red (AMD colours anyway and this is an Intel build ;))

Say hello to a sexy little orange and black build with an epic sound card! :D

Cheers mate, I kind of spent ages looking through everyone else's builds and picking all the bits that I thought would work well together and give me a fairly silent pc.

Hey guys just an update.

My friend chose the system put together by doomedspeed. (plus red's his favourite colour so the red and black theme ticked the right boxes).

Ethermaster - he also liked your spec but he had to have the msi 770 twin frozr 4gb gpu in his new rig.

Thank you everyone for all your help

(p.s. i was a lurker on these forums for a long time and have learned a great deal and hope to learn more in the future keep up the good work)
