GTA V

I've not played anything on my PS3 for a few years but decided to buy this yesterday as I currently have a lot of free time on my hands so want to play it now, and having read various reviews it just sounded amazing, plus I have no idea when we will get a PC version or if it will be a decent port.

Having read a lot of the comments on here I was worried I may disappointed with the graphics and performance. But honestly, I think it all looks good. Obviously it can't compare to a modern PC game but considering the age of the console it looks fantastic. I've not noticed any slowdown and certainly nothing that's impacted gameplay. Maybe I just don't have such a keen eye for these things.

I realise there is probably no point in fueling the debate more, but after everything I've read I just wanted to pop back and say looks good to me!

Right, slowly my ability to resit purchasing this is fading. Couple of possibly n00b questions.

I see folk talking about installing onto a USB drive, what's the reasoning behind this?

What's the music like in V? I always think the radio stations add so much to the atmosphere of the game, is it well implemented in V?.

Can you still add your own music to it?

Ta folks.

No idea about about installing to USB drive (I did it to hdd) or adding own music, but I spent about 4 hours yesterday on it (a lot in cars) and the atmosphere/music is brilliant. Really top notch tunes and radio commentary etc.

Same for me on the 360. Can't fault it really. Usually I'd side with the PC-snobbery regarding graphics etc but I'm actually enjoying the game too much to care about the lower graphics settings.

Had to see this game for myself after all the hype so I played it on a mates PS3 this morning. I wasn't impressed by the graphics, even for a console, Crysis 2 and 3 seem much more impressive to my eyes. The frame rate did feel sluggish, panning around to look at stuff just felt rough for me. Worth waiting for the PC version in my book.

Apparently if you install the play disk on your xbox it causes bad texture pop. Running it from disk is better or installing the play disk to a decent usb drive they say makes it run smoother. R* even said this on twitter.

Not tried putting my own music into the game but the music and radio ingame is fantastic.

The game itself is brilliant too. Done a few missions but decided to explore and i went to a strip club, got plastered and played golf. Its hard to describe but its just so...alive. Its a feeling ive never experienced in a game. When the mp gets unlocked its gonna add to this feeling even more. Cant wait!

Also Imo the game is freaking stunning considering its on current gen. I cant believe what they have managed to do with such old hardware.

I see, thanks for the info. Been a while since I've played any recent game on my 360 so I'm a wee bit out of the loop on this. I thought you would just put the disc in the tray and it would play from there?. Is that not the case, you need to 'install' it to the 360's hard drive or run it from an external drive of some sort?

Yup.

Cheers. Would there be any advantage in installing it to an SSD drive slaved in an external enclosure rather than a USB flash drive or is that just overkill?

Started playing this a bit last night as I was out all evening on Tuesday. I only did the first two or three missions and didn't really go for a wander, but it's clearly typical GTA and I already love it. The driving isn't as bad as I feared it would be: I can tell it feels similar to IV in terms of handling (probably slightly worse), but accelerating and braking seems way OTT. At least it's not as bad as Saints Row.

Also, I can't aim for **** with a controller.

Theres an 8gig installation from disk1 which has to be installed i guess because of the size of the map but its your choice if you install disk2 which is the play disk but with this particular game installing disk2 is not recommended as the game plays better running from the disk or installing the data to a usb drive not the hdd.

Normally i would install my games to the hdd but with gta it seems to cause problems with textures and slowdown which is odd.

Wait, so just to clarify: is it disc 1 (the mandatory install disc) that is best installed on a USB drive/external HDD? And if I want to install disc 2 (the play disc) to reduce noise from the console, what is best?

Disk 1 has to be installed, whether it's on external or local drive, doesn't matter

Disk 2, optional. If installed, it may reduce performance.

Disk1 is to be installed to the xbox hdd and as you say its mandatory and just under 8gb.

Disk2 play disk should either be run from disk or installed on something external like usb drive. Don't know how it will be on a external hdd but might be worth a try.

After discussion with some of the other moderators, we've decided to close this now. With no PC release even announced yet, it doesn't really serve a purpose except to take people away from discussing it in the Consoles thread where it belongs.

As soon as a PC version is announced, I'll either re-open this thread or we can get a new one started.
