********* The Official GTA V (5) thread! *********

Wtf is the impound? I found it once when doing the towing mission but can't find it any more lol. My only wish is to be able to name custom points of interest instead of just having a blank marker on dropped pins!

You can't change your main car that's on the driveway.

Tervor has the 4x4
Franklin has the white mustang
Michael has the Audi

You can't change them.

Does everyone else have a green motorbike at Franklin's on the drive as well as the white car?

I moved house and the white car and green bike are still on the drive.

It's not though. The disc carries on blaring away (old xbox 360 elite here). Have tested with other game I have installed to the hard drive and that works, ie no optical drive spinning after a few seconds.

Have you actually loaded into game before saying it's not working from memstick?

Also, this game is munching away the batteries in my controlling :p

Feeling quite dense here, but I've just done the install play disc to a USB stick trick for the xbox version, and I can't make the game play from it. I see no option to play from the installed version on the usb stick anywhere, and the game just runs from the rom drive, as you have to have the disc in still I believe, even when you do this trick.

Help!

The USB drive install (for the 2nd Disk for the X-box) is not mandatory and in fact you need to be cautious.

The game basically is so big it is split into 2 discs, you install Disc 1 and never need it again and need Disc 2 in the tray to play. When playing (no install of Disc 2), the game extract data from both the HDD and Disc 2 to populate the in game environment. So the disc is always spinning at pretty much full speed all the time.

If you install both discs into the HDD, the HDD is just not fast enough to extract twice as much data at the same time for the game not to mention the SATA bandwidth will be saturated. The result is shorter draw distances and less detail on screen. The amount however is minimal, but still, it is not advised.

So to stop the disc spinning all the time with that noise, you put in a USB stick in the X-box (there is a USB socket at the back so it's out of the way) You only need a 16G stick as it is an 8G install (if you have an external HDD that would work too). Make sure it has a minimum read speed of 15MB/s. Configure it inside the X-Box.

Once installed, the game still need Disc 2 to load, you will hear it spin when loading up. But once loaded, you are now running in silence and it is now loading data from HDD and USB stick.

After seeing comparisons of it both installed on the hard-drive against a USB install, it just doesn't seem worth it. You can't notice it

Cheers fella. Yep, I knew all this, and I loaded into the game etc etc. might just be my machine, but I've just done some proper testing, and once loaded in and running around it takes a full 2 minutes for my optical drive/ disc to stop spinning at full pelt. So the USB trick seems to be working as it should, but takes a while in my case.
Anyone else noticed this?

I did it to give the DVD drive a break and the silence !

I thought the game music and sound would drown it out but the noise from the disc is constant and very noticible when there is no music/radio on.

Yeah I'd imagine that would get annoying. I have both discs installed to the HDD so don't get that issue, but also have yet to see any pop in or frame drops, and I've been on the look out now since knowing it was potentially an issue. I think this must be something that effects the older models or something

I don't have it installed yet, but the blacks at night and shadows are horrible, Jimmy's room looks awful for the black textures on the walls.

I don't know why it's doing it, but on the PS3 it's fine.
