Baby Crushed to Death at Airport

I thought it was common sense to not put things, especially your baby on things that could start moving at any second, I'd never rest my baby carrier on any kind of conveyor belt or escalator just because it was turned off and anyone in this thread who would should take this as an example of why not to do it.

I also like that anyone with a differing opinion than you is fair game to insult and call a troll.

The purpose of prison is to incarcerate those that have committed a crime. Rehabilitation is a secondary purpose, and the hoped modern outcome.

Absolutely awful :(

Feel so sorry for them but what a stupid (plan stupid and not an accident at all! but I don't think she should be prosecuted for it) thing to have done!

She's been prosecuted by her own guilt most likely.

What a sad sad event, stupid woman :(

What you have to understand, is that if the women had put her baby on the floor in a carrier, and something fell over and killed/injured the child, there would be some people who frequent GD that would say that they would never put there child on the floor in a carrier.....

In this case, the mother made a stupid decision, not a mistake, ... the blame can only fall in one place and that should be made clear whenever it is being discussed.

And of course Dolph would know whether there was a safety protocol detailing if the belt should be stopped when not in use, or that it was functioning, that people who were supposed to be there were supposed to be there.

Bad event rarely have a singular causation - I used to examine some pretty interesting ones as my job and you could never pin the causation on a singular person or thing always a combination - the blame usually went onto one thing though but hey that's simplistic thinking for simplistic people.

Ever left the stair gate open Dolph?

I love how someone who has a different opinion to you is "trolling". Had that for years here.

No, different opinions are fine. But saying you've never made a mistake and forseen the outcome of every eventuality . . I was giving him the benefit of the doubt and calling troll.

It's that or a deluded idiot, you decide.

Dad was speeding.

vs

Mum who put her baby down for a min.

They should prosecute if she did it intentionally but it's very much an accident here, making a mistake which lead to her own flesh and blood dying is not the same as intentionally doing something illegal to cause harm to herself and/or child(ren).

but ive been nicked for speeding before wihout knowing i was. basically they changed the speed limit on a road i used every day for work. then on the day of the change they sat a traffic cop there. if i had my son in the car and crashed without knowing i was speeding (not seeing a new sign etc) would i be a worse parent than her?

btw im playing devils advocate here. just showing its not as black and white. you could argue that many of speed every day yet never get in a speed related accident so you think its safer than it is.

+1

i used to put the thing down then stand with my legs over it to stop this happening. i guess some people are sadly lacking in common sense. shame its the baby that has paid the price.

Rehabilitation isn't a secondary purpose, it is one of the Prison Services' stated purposes.

This is deserving of it's own thread, and it will only serve to derail this one. (As I agree of course it is one of their goals, but it isn't the primary purpose, and even if they say it is, that's just political).

*SNIP* shame its the baby that has paid the price.

Which is what it comes down to :(

(I'm not really sure you can always stand over a baby carrier when you are by yourself, trying to perform another task. I was trying to highlight that people keep claiming they are frigging perfect, it's a common trait on here). From the story she sounds to have done something very silly, but I won't be casting judgement on her as a mother for something I know nothing about).

Whether you think speeding is safer than it is or not, if you caused the death of someone by doing so there is a clear recklesness there.

Very sad story and r.i.p the little baby.

People having a go at the mother is totally wrong. For those of us who are parents and have had baby carriers, sometimes it is always easier to put it down so that it can be picked up at waist level. Obviously the baggage conveyor looked off to her so you can't blame her for putting it down.

Not knowing the full story I cant comment further.

but how did she not notice it star moving away, if she didn't notice a slow as **** baggage carousel moving away with her baby would she have noticed someone picking it up and walking off?

New details seem to be emerging. The child was not placed on a carousel. It seems the mother was carrying the child, perhaps in a sling. She was attempting to retrieve a pushchair that had become trapped in a non-moving conveyor belt. Somehow she tripped, the child fell onto the conveyor which started to move. The child then become trapped in a 10cm gap where one conveyor belt ended and another began. It doesn't take much imagination to consider what happened next.

Should the mother be prosecuted? No.
