Custom air cooled Titan??

Sooooo..... I was wondering.

If a lot of these Titan waterblocks also fit the GTX 780; technically could you pull off one of custom air cooled coolers (for example the Windforce one) off of a GTX 780 and put it ONTO a Titan to have a better air cooled Titan?

You could then put the standard Titan cooler on the 780 and sell it off as a standard 780.

Thoughts?

I'm pretty sure someone has tried or done this.

and im pretty sure if it was possible, someone one here would have known about it buy now lol.

but on the other side of the sheet. good thought :).. just need to spend £1500 on a 780 and Titan so we can test it out lol

Yes you could but it would be a pain. Gigabyte sell a titan with one of their coolers you can attach and you can get titan cooled 780s and ocuk now have their own titan with custom cooling pre installed

Titan water blocks are a straight swap to 780s so I imagine air coolers and the vrm.plates will be fine on reference cards

Hence why I said put the Titan cooler back on the 780 and sell that off! Wouldnt cost much more than your standard Titan then (still ££££). :P

Thats interesting... I'll go have a look!

I'm just imagining a Titan with an MSI cooler on it or something similar.....drool :p

Ahh here's that Windforce cooled Titan:

And this according to Hexus:

And while the GTX 770 and GTX 780 are shipped with the WindForce 3X cooler pre-fitted to the PCB, which is absolutely normal, we find it interesting that no AIC is allowed to ship Titan cards in anything other than reference form. Gigabyte gets around this Nvidia-imposed handicap by shipping a reference GTX Titan and its WindForce 3X cooler for the custom card package, and it warranties any problems caused by manual installation of the Gigabyte cooler.

The reference cooler is fine, although the Windforce is better...

The fan profiles are sooo timid on the Titan though, definitely doesn't crank up enough under load out of the box.
