So I've just placed the order for the 4770k + maximus vi formula from a competitor as received a 15% off code, total was £441.97(another £14-£15 off if quidco pays out). was umming and ahhing over going with the 4670k with the maximus vi formula or the 4770k/4670k with the maximus vi hero.

any way enough of the history lessons as the order has been placed, now the thing is I have 16gb(4 x 4gb) corsair vengence 12800 c9(1600mhz) ram and with all the current specs suggesting higher speed ram do I need to upgrade?

current spec is:

2500k currently at stock(due to issues I had in the summer) but was 4.8ghz(auto o.c. as I couldn't get any o.c staple manually in the time I played around in the bios, didn't spend too much time and never did go back into it)

Asrock Extreme 7 gen 3 which I regret buying due to all the issues I had and ended up costing nearly £300 with the postage costs

16gb corsair vengence 12800 c9

ocuk h2o cooler(basically an unbranded corsair h60)

128gb crucial m4(os drive)

256gb samsung 830(steam/origin drive)

1tb samsung spinpoint (data drive)

2x sapphire toxic 6950 unlocked to 6970 waiting on the new amd gpu before deciding on the upgrade path

cm cosmos s want to change this in the very near future to the corsair carbide 540

cm real power m800 psu 5yrs old now so looking at getting the corsair ax760 or similar seasonic psu

dell 2711 monitor

it was playing up during the summer as it'd shut down after a hour, it seems to have been 'cured' as couple of days ago it stayed on for 3hrs without shutting down(at which point I shut it down). I never did get around to pinpointing the cause of the 'heat stroke', I really can't be bothered with it any more as its been nothing but a nightmare from day 1(well the motherboard).

think I'll keep the cpu but throw the motherboard onto the mm to see if anyone is interested in it, as for the cpu I'm thinking about getting a mitx motherboard and either the prodigy(may go with the prodigy m and go xfire with the 6950) or the evga hadron hydra.

I would have kept the 2500k to be honest, I have the same MOBO & CPU as you, rock solid & 4.5ghz with 16gb RAM & MSI 7970. You may have had a board from a bad batch.

As for your RAM, you could always keep it and see how it goes? If you need faster RAM, sell it on the MM and get something quicker.

don't want to go into the whole back story but basically couple of the cpu socket pins were bent, I rma'd to ocuk who sent it back and refused it(had to pay admin fee for the 'pleasure' ontop of the postage) so sent to asrock in holland(this was thanks to another member on here pointing me in the right direction) who sent me a new one.

having other issues ontop of the 'heat stroke so was thinking of reinstalling windows but as I said in the end just going to 'sweep it under the carpet' and forget about it.
