Had a search but couldn't find anything. Any off roaders on here? I know there's a least one defender but may be more hiding!

Note: X5s, Rav4s, Touregs etc need not apply ;):D

If there are any about, what do you drive and what do you do with it??

Fairly new to it myself, only got my disco last year but loving it. Living very close to Salisbury Plain certainly helps

Couple of pics

Bought myself this a few weeks ago. 1999 TD5 90, it's been remapped and de-cat so goes and sounds epic. Fitted the lights and snorkel myself. Also made a bench seat for the back. And the best bit? £650 insurance on a 2.5ltr for a 21 year old!!

Very nice mate! The TD5 is a great engine. Can't wait to get mine remapped! Mine is decatted already but needs a straight through centre pipe to get the best of the sound. Priority at the moment is watts linkage bushes and a snorkel for playing in the winter!

Just wait until the snow hits mate, it's great fun. Kings of the road! :D

I very nearly bought a FL2 instead of the disco. I'm glad I didn't now purely because of my new hobby, but for a family type vehicle they are very very nice. If I had the money I would get one for the missus as a second (more sensible) car without a doubt.

Used to do a fair bit of Green laning & Pay & Play, Here's my old motors.

The Beast

The Landy

The Vitara in the Hole of Doom. :D

Great fun but you need at least one other motor to go with & everybodys fallen out with it round here. :(

Doing it properly, that's what I like to see!

Definitely need a few of you to go with. Nothing like going in to recover someone and getting stuck yourself!

I use a Toyota Land Cruiser Series 79 at work.

4.5L V8 diesel, ARB Bull bar, led driving lights, rear work light, 2" old man emu shocks and springs lift kit, drink fridge inside.....

Fitted with Goodyear Wrangler AT tyres.

It goes well off road, you dont ever need to use 4wd, but show it any mud and it just sinks as its so heavy. Not sure you would be any better with a Landy as last time I got stuck it sank so deep in the mud it beached on the rear diff and second fuel tank.

They are pretty beasty things aren't they. Some decent mud tyres would probably help though!

Being a softroader it's not as capable as the Disco/RRS/RR/Defender having no proper diff lock and mechanical 4WD system, but it's still impressive. As a family car it's great. We bought it brand new 18 months ago, and this week we take it back and drive away a brand new one with slightly better spec for no more money :)

Sat in a spec'd out RR at the garage...do want, very badly! Maybe one day...

They are still surprisingly capable! Trouble is they're still too new for most people to want to test them out properly, give it a few years and they'll be on the lanes no doubt!

My old man has a L322 Range Rover, it is a lovely place to be! Shame the git won't let me borrow it :D Mind you I can't say I blame him, everytime I pull in his drive way I have a new war wound :D

I have a Rangie. Does that count?
The only offroading I do though is though a few fords and a bit of green laning.

Last time out managed to mangle a side step (they need to come off anyway :D) and bent twisted the metal bumper catching it on a tyre under heavy articulation

Bit of field engineering, driving the landy onto one end and a few big blokes jumping on the other end had it back into shape in no time :D

I've got/had a few over the years;

Last "proper" off-roader, 1981 Series 3 SWB that I rebuilt with a 3.9 EFI engine and a few other bits

Sold that last year.

1998 Disco that gets used as a bit of a parts hack, green laner, winter driver and dog shuttle. This is the most recent photo I have online.

1991 Range Rover classic CSK 2 door that I built a few years back, doesn't do much off-road other than the odd ford and a bit of green laning while I was in Romania.

1981 Range Rover In Vogue 2 Door, doesn't go anywhere as it's waiting for me to restore it.

Thanks :) My brother and dad also have their own Land Rover collections going on. with a couple more classics, a FL2 and a Defender also in the family.

The Series 3 was not too bad with a coat on, engine kicked out a lot of heat, was a lot of fun and sounded lovely. I do regret selling it but I had too many. The Disco does pretty much everything the Series 3 would, I just need a decent set of tyres for it.

Yeh we're building a collection slowly, got two Disco 2s and an L322 range rover so far. Although mine's the only one that gets used properly ;)
