The wheelchair disabled icon

I think the word 'disabled' should be replaced with 'difabled' meaning 'differently abled'. It's more politically correct you see...

There's something to be said for a symbol which is so universal. No doubt that they'd never agree on the new symbol, so we'd end up with 20 different kinds of wheelchair symbols.

And that's ignoring the terrible new design.

Sorry but this offends me :o
I think it mocks the poor wheelchair users who are actually unable to navigate stairs properly. ;)

With regards to the male female icon, if you want to be technical then the only signifier that isn't socially constructed (unless you consider sex itself to be a social construction) would be a penis and vagina. Frankly, I'm all for that. Doors covered in genitals would be hilarious. Or you just do away with the distinction altogether and we can all take a dump in the same room.

I've always wondered why they never used ♂ and ♀ to denote gender rather than stick men and stick women.

Even young kids tend to be able to tell the difference between the current ones.

Well apart from the Scots who are used to men wearing dresses as well as women.

/runs away from the hordes of angry Scotsmen

There is nothing wrong with the current one, it is easily recognisable, easily understood and is androgynous in design. There is no reason to change it, so don't.

+1

this new one is horrible on the eye, all cluttered and doesnt really say anything new

also looks a bit like a man has a massive bumhole. or a bad hemorrhoid

"I've thought for a very long time I would love to have a sign with something like a big 'A' or whatever letter access starts with in your language, because then you could potentially have some visual shorthand which maybe has different levels."

Yeah, that sounds like a ****ing fantastic idea, so when someone from the UK goes to Belgium they have to know which letter to look for rather than a global universal symbol.

I'd like to know exactly how many disabled people complained about the current logo, as I'd be inclined to guess "none" and this is just a load of pretentious busybodies trying to justify their own pathetic existence...
