I've just fired up Crysis 3 having been not that impressed with 2, and my jaw dropped at the opening scene in the rain on the ship, simply staggering.

It got me thinking though, there are plenty of games that show their true colours as you play through them, but what games would you rate as having the best "impact", the best opening scenes or intro segments?

I'll throw some into the mix

- Dawn of War - the dreadnought and Space Marine assault against the orcs
- Bioshock (1 and Infinite) - The "fly through" of the city
- Crysis 3 - the reason I'm making this post!

I've no doubt there are plenty more out there...

Half Life transit intro. Blew my mind that something could be so 'slow' yet so cinematic and pull you into the game so much more than a simple title screen.

Shenmue on the Dreamcast. Big, fat, unskippable intro in which you not only see your best mate and house maid roughed up but your father murdered too.

The fact you can do nothing but watch (and twiddle thumbs) sets the scene for the game perfecly

Unreal

At the time the into was mesmerising. First shadows and lighting effects, moving water, big spaces etc.

Full throttle intro was great too. I remember it like I was 11 again. Jesus, 11, that's 17 years ago! (the music is almost eerie)

Yes! What a game. I always do a playthrough every few years or so. 'Bout time. Nice one!
