Hi, today i finally watercooled my cpu, with an xspc raystorm, xspc rs 240 radiator and a DDC 18W Ek x-res csq 140 combo.

on full whack the DDC is rather whiny though i imagine this is in no small part to the rather rigid mounting system. I have the pump powered via my lamptron fc6 fan controller and on full power it reads around 4000 rpm, the noise level is somewhat unacceptable at that rpm so i lowered it to around 2500 rpm this is much better where noise is concerned and temps still seem fine.

my question is, for a small loop like mine, is this safe to do without damaging the pump or reducing flow too much?

what rpm do others run their DDC at?

thanks,
smithy :)

pump should be fine, obviously running lower RPM will decrease flow but since its on your FC6 (How is the fc btw was looking at one?) you can control the speed up if your temps get over your personal preference

I run mine off my fan controller also, just make sure that you don't turn it below the start up voltage or it may still run at the time but fail to start up with the pc.

Have a play around and see how low that is.

ok thanks for the replies guys, it still starts up at whatever voltage i have set to equal 2500rpm so i think i'll just leave it at that. The fc6 is a nice bit of kit, no automation on it of course but it does the job for me perfectly, and at 20W per channel it can run quite a lot of stuff.

I have my 18W DDC set to around 1950rpm any lower and it wont start up, but its totally silent.
The only thing i dont like about my FC6 is the small amount of usable adjustment, shame you cant set it to 5v-12v instead of 0v-12v.
