The Official Pro Evolution soccer 2014

I like the pace and feel of it this year, but as other people have pointed out the responsiveness of your player is dreadful.

It's difficult to explain but...

In pes 3 (last really good one imo) if your timing was spot on you could reliably get past any defender if you simply changed direction the moment he stepped forward to tackle you. The window to do it was very small but it was satisfying pulling it off.

With the newer versions the delay between telling the player to do something and him actually doing it became sluggish and random, basically making the above impossible.

If they could fix that i'd be over the moon with the game

I think it was a smart decision by Konami not to put this game on next gen consoles to be honest. Compared to FIFA's next gen offering I think it would have been destroyed and if their aim is to change opinion whenever they transition over it has to come close in all areas. Hopefully with their new London studio working on PES 2015 presumably then we'll get a better product and extension of all that I like in PES 2014.

They really should just be copying FIFA mode for mode at this point and then put their own natural spin on things, if they really want to compete that's what has to be done and if they don't have the resources then unfortunately over time they'll lose the licenses they currently own.

Clubs, MLO (implement the Ultimate Team style of card trading and a web app store)
and Seasons Mode. FIFA didn't have a problem taking some of PES's most innovative features through the years time to do the same.

Yeh, the gameplay on this game is fantastic, there are some annoying bugs, but my main gripe with it is the lack of modes and features, it feels very naked, and one of my friend who is a pes fan says its got less features then previous versions. Maybe they might add more stuff as DLC's but the game seriously needs more features, Konami can take a leaf out of FIFA books in terms of Online modes, a return of 2v2 would be nice aswell as a club mode.

Yeh it is annoying lag, I hope they fix this issues as it can be very frustrating.

Also to the other poster I also find it hard to create chances....but I have become better the more games I play, coming from FIFA this game is very different, you have to work to create chances, as opposed to having so much of it done or using pace etc.

It's not lag, lag would be some kind of technical issue that's stopping the game from performing as intended. The players are moving as they are intended to, forget about using the close control button for the time being and forget about trying to move with the ball as you would in previous versions, you will get nowhere even on lower difficulties. Start using the dash button for turns, runs, beating players, it will make a huge difference.

lag smlag, whatever you want to call it, there is a delay between pressing the button on the controller and the player doing the action, I use the dash button, but its there for certain actions.

It's not a delay is the point I'm making, and not something you should be expecting to be patched out. This is how they have designed the game, when you turn with the ball, there are a set of animations that you are going to go through, and in PES 2014 it's noticeably more than we've seen before in the series. The close control modifier in particular, totally useless, I'm really not sure what the intended use for this button is anymore, but even turning as you would do in previous games, good chance you won't keep hold of the ball.

Yes, the dash has always been for use in certain circumstances, mainly when you have space in front of you, want to lose a man or are desperate enough to be willing to take the much higher risk of losing the ball when you dash. The button is quite simply not used in the same way for PES 2014, the quick turns in tight spaces that you would previously be able to pull off, you still can, only now you have to use the dash button to do it. Trust me, I've played the game plenty both ways, spent 2 or 3 hours in total frustration at losing the ball all the time, being unable to get a sniff at goal, all because I was trying to play the game as I would in the past. Literally the first game I tried to make more use of the dash button, the game went from stupidly hard and annoying, to pretty easy.

Didnt realise there would be a PC thread about this and put something in the console section.

With regards to modes, offline I think its fantastic... Online is not my thing so im sure they could take a leaf out of all the EA Sports titles, as they have nailed that market pretty much. However offline, Master League is fun... then you can play Seasons which include Cups and Europe.. plus all the International Comps too.

Ive also noticed a minor delay, but someone posted that its to do with the physic system in that you cant just do something if your body is not set.. as irl. Now im not sure if thats the case for everything, for some things I can agree that could be the situation... but recent games for me that delay has gone by either working my man into the position I need him to be to instantly perform the action, or at least queue it up... so the man has a pop at doing what you want.

idk, to me its probably the best PES for a long time. Mods will make it awesome.

My brother sat and watched me play a 20 minute game today (10 minutes each half) and he said how little chances were made for either side.

Is anyone else finding that even scoring goals is a near impossibility in this game?

I go through patches of games that are goalless or settled by the odd goal... then ill have a patch of scoring for fun, creating hatfuls of chances.. I just think its confidence and I certainly notice that if you can get a lead on the AI, that they will take chances and leave space open for you to counter into.

First version of PES Edit has already been released, so much better playing with full teams, kits, players etc.

I love their patches but Uploaded makes me cry and although its cheap in a sense to not subscribe, its like 60 dollars or something for 6 months and thats what you need in order to always get the new version they release :(

We should collaborate on here, 5 users... 1 chunk each, then upload them somewhere nicer for OCUK peple to get it without waiting 1 or 2 hours a pop for the next file.

Do they only ever update the premiership or do they update everything eventually? (Never played PES before, but fifa 14 is utter pants this year so considering switching over)

The normal course is:

Premier League
Serie A
La Liga
Ligue 1
Ere Divisie
Liga Zagres

Then they add:

Bundesliga as a top flight option

They then add generally Serie B, Liga Adelante, Championship, 2.Bundesliga... so you can choose one of those if you play Master League (only one 2nd division).

Other leages often get added way down the line... expect another South American and Asian League this year as well. Plus loads of faces, kits, graphic updates ie HD Turf, balls, boots... then things like Transfers and adding in players as well to get complete squads. Also International teams get a makeover and some added...

I mean this gives you an idea of where this is headed, patch 6.0 for PES 13

Ah that's pretty cool then, cheers :) being a championship team fan though i kind of want to wait till that's ready but i might give it a shot sooner if i find it at the right price, what's the cheapest it can be had for at the moment?

Things I like - the passing and the pace of the game.

Things I dislike - tackling doesnt seem correct, crossing/heading is hit and miss and the control layout seems a bit of a nightmare. The online experience is so slow and laborious as well.

Its frustrating as the core of the game is brilliant and not a million miles away from being perfect.

Its all horses for courses but I love the headers in the middle of the park/defending... players really leap for the ball and clatter the opponent. Crossing I find similar and ill add in attacking headers... im not getting them atm.

I mean I like the variety in crosses, inswingers, outswing... nice pace on the ball, not all crosses hit their target etc, so it feels right... in that sense, maybe just as I cant get headers in that im finding that frustrating.

Slide tackling is great, the stab tackle as I call it in football games is a bit iffy at times, but again if it works, its good... as the ball dosent glue to your feet, you get all sorts of richochets and rebounds that make you have to react rather than waltz in, scoop the ball off someones foot and instantly race off down the pitch.

I agree that the frustration is bore out of the potential for it to be immaculate, as it can be... but there are times you just think... CMON.
