OMG - I have to write 3 x papers!!!

1500 words is what, 3 sides? Easy peasy! If its on something you have a genuine interest in and have a wide knowledge on then my concerns would be how do I stick to the word limit!

Some top advice there, thank you very much. I found the hard part was finding a topic. When i read "investigate a cyber warfare attack" i literally thought i was to identify an attack, highlight the act and then possibly the impact and outcome.

In my job that would be my task and that's what i would do, i didn't realise it didn't have to be literal!

So, what jumps out at me at the minute is the Anonymous group - sounds v interesting to me and lots of subject matter available.

So would it be acceptable to do the whole paper around Anonymous? ie background, intentions, actions, whilst adding what cyber warfare is and its impact?

If so, i'm happy!

If you need clarification on exactly what sort of thing they're looking for you're best off contacting your tutor as all we can really give is a best guess.
I don't know about the OU but at my uni the marking scheme for the piece of work was always available so you knew what points you had to hit and how much they were worth, if the OU make these available then have a read.

That sounds better than my day job tbh (PM for a telecomms company)

I went through 5 years at Uni and I don't think any written task where there was a word limit, was as small 1500 words. That is not much at all. To be honest as people have said above it may be more challenging to keep within the work limit for those subjects so it will be an exercise in being concise as much as being interesting and informative.

Makes me want to take a course again.

Sure but anonymous is really just hacktivism imo. Stuxnet would be the obvious thing to write about. Start by looking at some of the more well known attacks on wikipedia http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberwarfare

I would probably write it on attacking SCADA systems in general

1 x research paper 1500 words to demonstarte application of research and study skills

1 x Development of a career action plan 1500 words.

I have not even seen a template or been shown how this should be laid out!! Any pointers on this one?

Easy peasy after you've done a few.

Exactly - never seen one, never done one. I have been out of education for about 20 years now! Although, in my work i have attended courses etc and have to carry out investigations producing written reports.

However, for the reports we have templates, the only direction i have been given is the title and the word count - i am unsure how it is to be laid out.

You started an OU course/Degree and you wasn't expecting to do some writing ? :P

Get ready for a surprise!

Of course i was expecting to produce paperwork. However, having been told i am submit 3 papers in 12 weeks on a subject i am there to learn and in a way i have never used before is a bit daunting.

SUPRISEEEEEEEEEEE

I've had two months to invent a new chemical detection technique and write 21000 words for. You have it easy

1500 words is nothing, if you've something to write. But a challenge with the Open University is that you're dipping in and out of your studies based on free time, so it may not be fresh in your mind when you come to write an essay.

My suggestion is to make sure you've your question or whatever in mind when you read the chapter, that you make pertinent notes and that you plan out your answer in advance.

The difference between the essays where I fully planned my answer to those where I didn't was huge. I whipped out the planned ones in record time, whereas without the plan I was pulling out my hair at 2am panicking because I hadn't go it quite right.

Oh and I had 7 essays and a EMA to do since February. It does seem a bit harsh that you have three essays due in the same month if this is your first module. But your tutor is going to be very forgiving if this is an introductory course.
