Childhood dream vs. Reality

I wanted to be a commercial pilot, glad that I still have many, many years ahead of me to try attain that, the number one issue being cost.
I doubt it'll happen though.

When I was a child I dreamt of being outdoors/living a life of adventure. Here I am at 24, sat in an office with the only windows upstairs being into the warehouse we have next door. *Living the dream, YOLO*

But I know this pays me money so I can go on my adventures and in a couple of years perhaps I'll have enough to truely up my roots here and do something wonderful!

I had no clue what I wanted to do when I grew up. At 33 I've found myself in an excellent job with good career prospects but still have no clue what I want to do in all honesty - certainly not this for the next 30+ years.

I used to want to get into home or end-user IT support but just didn't pay enough - I used to do out of hours work and it was so unpredictable, especially with the complete tools you meet along the way.

Toyed with the idea of studying theology but don't have the time/means with mortgage/family.

Could be worse!

Space adventurer or a jet fighter pilot.

As for ambition. I was born with that and had no real realistic idea what I wanted as a kid. (I was mothered too much).

My wife has done stuff in life that amazes me. 3 months in Siberia; Held at gun point in Russia; lived in Ukraine for many years; Been held down screaming whilst Russian doctors force an endoscope down her throat etc... and then there's her prior history :-) Love to talking to her, there's always something new I never knew about.

I would say that if you intend to do something, then get out and travel and expand your perception of life. I never did :-(

I wanted to be an artist for 2000ad and draw Judge Dredd. Never happened of course and I now work in advertising and retouch food for "Burger Royalty".

I wanted to be a taxi driver or a policeman. I'm not either of those.

I did get into the Metropolitan Police though, I was waiting for a start date, then the Conservative government came in and started making cuts, which meant that I, along with around 1600 other people waiting to start (after a 6-9 month (can't remember exactly) process with various stages) got told that they were not longer recruiting.

Same - that as well as I destroyed my ACL.

I'm an IT monkey these days! :D

Wanted to be a pilot. Kind of achieved it, I tell pilots what to do ;) And I intend on getting into microlighting when funds permit.

I had various aspirations as a kid, but didn't know how to achieve them.

Now I'm an engineer.
