Well the people who persecuted the Jews were not doing so for religious reasons. And Muslims were killing each other over issues besides religion for thousands of years.

What makes religion being the motive any different to ideology for example? If we ought to outlaw anything, it should be capitalism and communism right? They nearly took us to the brink of global nuclear war.

I would dispute this to some extent, for example al Qaeda under Bin Laden also promoted sectarian violence in areas where the Sunni branch of Islam is not so dominant, the underlying reason for this is power, I disagree with the point about non-Muslim troops, al Qaeda's stated aims include a restitution of The Caliphate and the removal of ALL foreign troops, where they hail from is immaterial..again this is to broker their own power base and enforce their specific socio-political ideology which granted is based on an interpretation of Islam, however I would not say this means that Religion is the Cause..it is an example of the use of Religion as a tool to exert and enforce an intolerant socio-political ideology onto a population, it is also an example of justification of intolerance and division through the misuse and selective interpretation of Scripture, again as a tool in order to pursue an external political agenda.

Killing people who you don't like could be a pretty ****-ish thing to do, so you may have contradicted yourself there.

Which were largely more about economics, power, intolerance, political influence and land. Religion was just one of the justifications used to satisfy and rally the people.

Religions doesn't cause wars at all, people do. I'm not religious, but I'm also not blinked enough and blinded by irrational hatred of religion that I can't see the realities of the way people are.

Blaming "religion" on the actions and choices of humans is tantamount to me, going around beating people up in the name of "Bob", some guy I know, and then people getting angry at "Bob" and holding him to blame for the actions that I decided to take.

The whole "religion is responsible for all evil and wars" is just a way for people to remove the blame from their own race of people on to something else. It shows a lack of respect for the atrocities that people have carried out to try and blame it on anything other than the people who carried them out.

Agreed. In fact, hating a religion to the point of blaming it for everything, should in itself become a religion. Like 'IhateChristianity-anity'.

Edit: I'm not saying you aren't entitled to your opinion of hating something, but when you start preaching and getting in people's faces with it, then yes that is basically how I see religion.

"Religion is like a penis. It's fine to have one and it's fine to be proud of it, but please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around... and PLEASE don't try to shove it down my child's throat"
