Is anyone a recruitment consultant?

Some recruitment firms take a 20% fee of the offered basic wage. If you pay 40k or above thats a fair chunk they demand payment in 7 days too. They are handy for poaching people tbh

Consultants are irritating *******s, I must agree there, for example one told me I'd be put forward for a job in place A.
Then a week later says recruitment was frozen in there.
A week after that I took a better job in the same place off my own back and was told the consultant was talking rubbish.

Since then she keeps phoning me see how I'm getting on with "the jobhunt", I always reply "still employed... I'll phone you if I need you" no notice taken.

Don't confuse irritating with thick. Like estate agents, most of them are as thick as two short planks.

Just treat them like the dogs they are and they'll soon heel.

So looking on jobsites there are tonnes and tonnes of recruiter jobs. It baffles me how they can't be full yet.

Do most of these jobs have an actual salary or do you just live off any bonuses you get for signing up new people to jobs?

Or are they just a giant scam all over?

Pretty much every recruitment company is on the lookout for good people all year round. They will always hire a good person who comes through the door. Finding those good people can be difficult.

Working in recruitment is hard work but the rewards are excellent. It is primarily a sales job. Starting out most people end up on the lowest level type of work - that is really a numbers game. It isn't too far removed from any other telesales job but it pays a lot more. As you progress in your career you end up working on more specialised projects and dealing directly with hiring companies. That is complex work and at the right company can earn very high rewards.

I didn't say they couldn't?

Yeah guaranteed as in "we guarantee you'll earn £7k in bonuses else you won't have a job with us". Lots of jobs include bonuses from minimum targets in the base salary.

Base salary in a recruitment company for a complete rookie is between 18-20k with bonuses and commission on top of that. London companies will pay more. Companies in the north of England/Scotland can pay less.

Year 1 OTE for a complete rookie is often 30k-40k. Will vary by company and sector.

Recruiters working with a decent company and performing well can easily earn six figures.

its a sales job that unfortunately attracts a large number of muppets - its seemingly pays well, doesn't require any qualifications and acts like a big magnet for business studies grads who couldn't get a job anywhere else and/or people without a degree who want a shot (albeit a long-shot for most) at earning 100k+

there are some good ones - there are the charismatic sales types who've obviously grafted hard over a few years, bashed numbers, built up industry connections and gotten to know a bit about their market... they're OK to deal with as they tend to understand roughly what you do and whether you'd be a good fit for the role they're pimping. Occasionally you'll also get guys who've worked in the industry previously and then became recruiters - these guys are gold dust from the perspective of a candidate.

Majority though don't seem to make much effort to learn anything at all about the sector they're recruiting for, perhaps a token effort to join some relevant linkedin groups though mainly to spam people... bit sad really as some of these guys are probably struggling and given the potential rewards on offer for them spending a bit of extra time really understanding their sector they prob should make more of an effort.

This.

As its a sales role, you get the majority being morons but there are good people out there.

People may turn their nose up at you for being in recruitment but if you take home 50k-100k a year, who cares. Just be credible!

I spent a few years as a recruitment consultant. The first company was terrible but the second was a much better set up.

I was on 18k with one years experience and took about 5k in commission.

Long hours and prety boring work basically hassling people leaving messages and emails all day.
