I just logged into my online banking account and found underneath a B&Q purchase a targetted advert, inline with my statement offering 10% cashback at Homebase!!

I don't want any adverts on my bank statements. I wouldn't say an invasion of privacy, but I also wouldn't want it there. Can you complain?

Does seem to be some very direct (and mildly annoying) marketing from Halifax - it's to promote their 'cashback extras' which you can disable in Cashback Extras -> Settings

Are Halifax/BOS not doing some cash back offer now?

It's probably related to that. Or you've got random adware on your computer.

Algorithm will probably target 'people who make purchases at similar outlets to advertiser'

This is only the start of things to come my friend.

Be afraid, be very afraid.

Let the paranoia take control, don't fight it.

Good luck.

Just to be clear, this was inserted into the middle of my statement. Right underneath my B&Q purchase. Clearly this isn't randomly inserted advertising which while I wouldn't like I wouldn't be so concerned over.

The fact it has specifically picked up a B&Q purchase and offered a competitor discount means something at Halifax is actively scanning my statement.

Yes, it'll be a bot looking for text. I imagine it would have offered b&q if it had found homebase.

Can't see an invasion.
