Out the Loop part 2 - Component Upgrade

Ah now your appealing to my frugal side :)

Ok but what about other advantages of new motherboard, USB 3.0, Sata 6?

Not saying that makes it worthwhile but these are nice to haves surely?

Well you would be looking at quicker response times with single/multi core tasks, better circuitry, improved support of multiple graphics cards, support and utilization of seriously quick RAM....this could go on.

SATA 6 is a great addition and DDR4 is rumoured to be released next year, but this could be limited to the commercial market. If you wanted a serious upgrade, you could look at the x79 platform:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel 4820K 3.70GHz (Ivybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - OEM (CM8063301292805) £249.95
1 x Gigabyte X79-UD3 Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £169.99
1 x TeamGroup Xtreem LV 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C9 2133MHz Dual/Quad Channel Kit (TXD316G2133HC9NQC-L) £119.99
Total : £551.33 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Is your list a better set up that that put forward by Ripjaw as there isn't a massive price differential?

It's an enthusiast setup. Quad Channel RAM, 40 PCIe lanes giving better performance when using multiple g/cards and the option of hex-core processors.

Well i don't need a set up for multiple graphics cards etc.
I'm going to have to give this some thought.

Maybe just buy a new graphics card and let it ride for another year

Decisions, decisions

P.S. What graphics card am i looking at which will run BF4 at 2560x1440....I know you may not know for sure but a rough idea would be a great help. Oh and i would always pay a premium to get one that is quiet (better fans etc)

Cheers guys

We'll really have to wait until AMD's announcement.. I assume they'll be timing these card to fall with BF4. :)

+1

Not to confuse you even more but if multi gpu is defo no interest to you, you could always consider mATX board and case? Thats the road i've gone down to keep things small and neat.

I appreciated all the advice and i will wait but i was wondering what models i would be looking at so i could evaluate prices.

Pretty much made up my mind to leave things as they are for another year although i may look at getting a new cpu cooler.
One other thing if i may, my current rig runs the following memory - Corsair Dominator TR3X6G1600C8D
Would this be worth upgrading, again i'm thinking it may give my current set up a bit longevity? And if worth doing any suggestions.

Again thanks for all advice it's most welcome, you have already saved me £500+ today :)

That rams fine tbh so no real need there, if you really want a gpu like now kind of thing then one of these

1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Superclock ACX 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (02G-P4-2774) £329.99

There very similar to each other performance wise, i dont care what anyone says, i looked at benchmarks for weeks (literaly) and some sites the 7970 was better some the 770 was better, there one and the same to me. Most say the following 'the 770s better than the 7970 both at stock and the 7970 is better than the 770 overclocked' take that as you will, but i personally chose the 770 for advanced physx as my fave game uses it.

BUT! You'd be mad to not hold out a little whilst for the next gen amd, that will most likely be very good, and may even force nvidia to lower there prices, wait and see i guess.

Cheers Rip

I favor the 770 myself always been an nvidea man :)

But i'm in no screaming hurry I can wait but it's good to have a particular model in mind so you can monitor prices.

One thing on the 770 would the 4gb be better than he 2gb for running the high resolution?
Also you recommended the EVGA model, my previous card is an MSI which was great because using afterburner i could control the fan speeds, do other manufacturers have something similar?

Most would say stick with a 2gb but tbh the roumers flying around with bf4 for eg suggest that 4gb may not be a bad idea, also the 4gb cards normally always only cost a few extra quid so may aswell. You can use msi afterburner with any card ;) Nice bit of softwere. If your up for a 4gb and dont mind spending a bit more id highly reccomend this one YOUR BASKET
1 x Inno3D GeForce GTX 770 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £419.99

Its frigging huge! But the best 770 no doubt about it, its even better than the lightening (although the lightening fan boys wont be happy with my comment lol)
