Afternoon all,

Basically I hate my job, I dread every single working day here. I feel emotional all the time, waking up during the night, can't switch off on my days off etc. I've just had enough.

I have an opportunity to go to Dubai for a week with the potential of relocating there at a later date.

Today my request for annual leave has been declined because other staff members are on annual leave for the 5 weeks running up to my request and in my bosses words 'he will have his balls handed to him on a plate for allowing it'.

This for me isn't a valid reason. No-one else is on annual leave, it is purely because we are under staffed and have been for the last year.

What would you do?

Walk in to his office and take a dump on his desk.

It will show him you're the alpha male and not to be messed with. He'll immediately respect you as the real boss and give you six weeks off.

I could but the person I am going to see will be at work and said person cannot get time off at any other point.

Then you have three options.

1. Quit
2. Go at different time and get other person to quit
3. Try again

(There are obviously more options...)

They don't have to give you a good reason or any reason at all for that matter, if they wanted they could dictate exactly when you were allowed to take your holiday and give you no choice in the matter.

Your happiness is more valuable than that. Quit the damn job and go to Dubai. If it doesn't work out, well they're understaffed, you could ask for your job back, or find a different one. You'll never know if you don't try.

Don't quit, sort the other job first. Just phone in sick the week your going to dubai.

What's the worst that can happen..

Tell your boss the truth about your feelings. Say you really need this time off to recuperate.

If you still get declined, then I would either do one of the following:

1. Quit
2. See GP and get signed off for a bit.

Is this the holiday to go visit the sister-in-law? :p

Ha! potential of relocating in the future . . slow down buddy you'll scare her off!

Her face as he turns up on the door step with everything he owns. I've quit my job, I'm moving in, lets make babies! :D

How likely is this and when? Are there available jobs once you are there?

If you hate your job then its inevitable that you are going to quit at some point. May as well be when you have a prospect of a new life.

I'm not the one that suggested it ;)
