3 million miler...

A Rover K Series engine was stripped back at 180k still had the honing marks on the bored and original everything else pretty much.

Everything was within tolerance too, if only they'd all been built that well :p

Some people have very little faith in engines for some reason. Why is that? Metal doesn't suddenly fail when it goes over a certain mileage.

No but when cast iron is scraping against cast iron at about 9m/s for thousands of hours with no discernible wear - someone did something right :)

There's about 60 registered volvos with over half a million miles. 3 million I think is the highest.

Maybe volvos appeal to a certain demographic, whilst a lot of modern cars are built very well it's surprising how many simply aren't maintained, even if it's just a yearly oil change, my mates mum asked me to look at her 4yo corsa she's had from new and that's done probably average miles 40k at a guess, it was running rough, I asked her when it was last serviced and she just looked at me funny and said it's too expensive.

Yeh, wait till you try to sell it, lol!

Don't Americans change their oil every 3000 miles or something stupid?

Oil change every fortnight?

4 oil changes a year? I can't really see it, it would be far too much hassle for your average driver for zero gain, even if the oil is cheaper..
