Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new TV for when the PS4 comes out, I haven't owned a console since the PS2, so buying TV's has never been top priority, and mine is a bit pants.

95% of the use will be gaming, with occasional bluray watching.

I'd probably be less inclined to go plasma, smart TV's don't bother me, but if it has those features, then I won't say no.

Cheers for any suggestions.

I'd be looking at the Sony W6 series of TV's. They seem to have the lowest input lag of all the TV's from my research. I think the W9 is out of your budget. I'm looking the the 42" KDL-42W653A which can be had for around the £550 mark. I think there is a 50" model also.

Yeah I had that on my short list already, looks like a nice piece of kit. Is there anything else worth looking out for?

Don't need them, really, would just be for fun. But just wondered if it was better quality, the stand looks better at least, just wondered about picture quality.

Look at some reviews of them both, avforums has owners threads as well so you could ask there for advice.

I have the 653A and it's a lovely TV, built in wi-fi and smart, I hook up my Alienware laptop and there's no lag or ghosting in games, it came with a 5 year warranty, got it from Richer Sounds.

Think John Lewis offer 5 year warranty as well, keep a lookout daily as you can usually find one for around £500 with a code or something.

E8000 51" Samsung Plasma is £899 from John Lewis

this will blow anything away in the same price range, same tv was £1600 last year.

look at it's review on avforums for more info.

Sonny I did as you said and asked on avforums about a gaming TV and people said the new Sony LCD's are better than any plasma for input lag.

Where did the OP state he wants a 51" panel?

He's asking for a TV for gaming, the new Sony LCD's are best for this I even asked on avforums like you told me to.

the sony sets are what roughly 20ms of input lagg?

the e8000 is 40ms iirc

my gt50 is 30ms

i think so long as it's below 50ms it's pretty much good for gaming, i do have to stick my gt50 in game mode, as when it's in the other presets, i can feel the input lagg, but they are closer to 100ms of lagg then, so yes input lagg does make a difference, but there does come a point when you can no longer tell the difference.

if you were given the option of a 40 or 47 inch screen with 20ms lagg which was more expensive or a 51 inch screen with 40ms of lagg for cheaper which also has better PQ which means a far nicer picture whilst gaming and other use, i know what most people would choose, the bigger screen with the better picture for cheaper money.

The 42" Sony W6 scored 15.5ms and also got an excellent rating for its picture quality and black levels.

There's not much reason nowadays to go for Plasma unless you're looking at a 60" purely for films.

51" would be too big anyway, no where to fit it. I went for the Sony in the end :-) great TV, 42" was just the right size.

Cheers for the help!
