looking at this on today only offer, seriously tempted at £225 for a 7970

initially i'd budgeted £400 for a new amd card but still none the wiser after amds anouncements last night.

worth shelling out for one of the above or is there a better card for 1080p gaming?

Its a great card!!! well worth the money. This is not a ghz edition but being a TOP its already binned by ASUS for overclocking potential so I would not worry at all.

decisions decisions,
so tempted just to pull the trigger and have one or even a pair at that price.

BUT it does make me wonder whats round the corner if 7970s are being flung out the door at nigh on 200 a piece

Caved and ordered damn you all I really didn't NEED a 7970

How are these 70s for clocking?

Really bad apparently and you will be lucky to hit stock clocks. Most owners have to underclock them :D

Only joking and 1150Mhz - 1200Mhz should be doable for 24/7 gaming :)

Be careful thinking about two - not all boards/cases will support two 3 slot graphics cards and it'd need a lot of good airflow.

The cards are brilliant though. I had one, best card I've had - amazing performance and barely any sound even at load.

The downside is the voltage lock, which will limit the overclock, but you can use a custom BIOS for that.

Yeah it should be great, I am not that interested in overclocking it though, so it should be fine for me regardless at this price :).

Bonus on top are the 3 free games as well, I will get Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider, and Saints Row 4 I reckon! I was looking at buying all of these at some point so saved me a bit of cash there too!

Yeah, 3 games and such a stupidly low price on the GPU is great. This graphics card was about £320 just a month ago. It definitely should be clocked above the stock 1000MHz though. Even at 1100MHz it'll give a massive boost in performance.

cant wait till I get my grubby mitts on it tomorrow, will be interesting to see just how far it will go, tbh from what I've read i'll be ecstatic if I can get 1200mhz stable with a small jump on the ram side.

but for the price it was a no brainer,

3 games are probably worth 40-50 i'd imagine i'll get £75-80 back on my 6970 so all in i'm talking around £100 to upgrade from my 6970.

happy days.

tell us more about this custom bios malarkey,

are they similar toe the 69xx with the dual bios you can switch between, wouldn't really fancy borking a new card on day one of ownership.

These cards don't have a custom bios to unlock voltage, Though The top version should be unlocked anyway.

GPU Tweak 2.2.1.4 will have unlocked voltage control no matter what on these cards.

bare in mind the DL DVI on these 90% of the cards display green corruption on 1440p and above

The card has two BIOSes via a switch, yeah.

I'm sure I saw custom BIOSes for the board but I never tried it. People were definitely flashing alternative BIOSes to get the voltage changed.

The top edition is definitely locked, unfortunately. The Matrix isn't.
