ASDA Costume apology.

LOL

its like someone with a bruised knee having a say on something offensive to double amputees....

psycho restrained by a straight jacket and some Hannibal style jaw device.... probably has a few more 'issues' than one of the many hundreds of thousands of people with 'depression'...

You heard it here first Ocuk, you can only comment on something offensive if it accurately portrays you yourself personally!

nah he's welcome to criticise it.... its the article highlighting the fact he's suffered from depression that's irrelevant

"Joe Bloggs, who once had a suntan on holiday, also criticised his team mate over the use of racist language"

Depression can be devastating and lead to all sorts of very serious consequences.

Or more likely we'd be intelligent enough to realise it was a light-hearted take on the stereotype ;)

Anyone sensitive enough to take offence at something which is so over the top that it's obvious it isn't serious needs to be offended more often to toughen them up and put things in perspective.

True, but a lot of people aren't that intelligent, and a lot of people's ideas of someone with mental health issues, or gamers, probably aren't too far away from these stereotypes.

I'm sure it can... but it pales in comparison to a fictional character such as Hannibal who requires locking up, constant supervision, a straight jacket, device fitted to his jaw etc...

its rare a gif sums up my unworthy opinion but for once...

Exactly, as far as you're concerned. Offence is only translated in the way it's perceived by the individual from a personal perspective. i.e. when it touches personal feelings and emotions.

I'm not offended by the costume or it's branding but then, it doesn't affect me.

You have to draw the line somewhere though. It isn't reasonable for the majority to pussyfoot around every single person that might be offended by something.

There are plenty of religious people around, but it doesn't stop people from saying "jesus christ" or "god damnit" when they stub their toe or knock a drink over just because it might offend someone does it? I assume you want everyone to stop doing that as well?

And yet the whole point of the offence was exactly that, labelling people with mental illnesses something grossly offensive.

Someone with depression could easily be considered for treatment in a hospital and to then have this kind of thing be used to characterise them is disgusting.

Careful, you might offend someone! :p

I'm childish/annoying enough that if some poor butterfly takes offence at something petty and inconsequential, I'll deliberately try to be as offensive as possible towards them.

Call me what you will, but I take a deep personal satisfaction in it :p

Is this a cool party trick you do for your class mates big man or do you just do it on the Internet?

let's start a petition for asda to rename it "escaped sadistic psychopath costume"
surely no one can be offended by an accurate description

I find it quite comical that people posting in this thread criticising how easily offended and over sensitive some people are, are the same people that RTM each day complaining that they find someones posting offensive.

They wouldn't understand anyway, too stupid. :D

Who decides what is petty and inconsequential though? I'd imagine some of the nastier trolls that target memorial pages on facebook feel the same way, but I think most of us can agree that that's not an acceptable level of 'offensive' though. Where do you draw the line?

Sadistic? :p

me because someone said I was a retard and I reported them? should you even be discussing RM openly anyway? what people RM is surely private? it;s like a doctor thinking he can discuss his patients if he gives them colours instead of names?
one is a bloody direct attack on another person.

the other is a costume used in god knows how many slasher horrors not intended to offend anyone.

Just do as I ask and improve your character, I don't really care for your waffling life story or lame excuses on why you didn't register the offence at first, it really doesn't matter. Just do better, hold yourself and others to a higher standard.

Careful now, you might sustain a serious injury if you fall of that horse. ;)

This isn't about being "offended" in the sense of indignation,
this is being made to feel the target of a joke or a stereotype.

The response isn't offence, it's an emotional hurt dumped onto people who really can't cope with the slightest negative feeling towards them, real or otherwise. Don't expect everyone to be able to deal with every situation in a rational way.

So many stupid people in one thread, this must be a record for GD

Ah the irony. People posting about not being effected or concerned with mental health issues whilst displaying classic evidence of narcissistic personality disorders.

Delicious. :D
