Apple Maps flaw results in drivers crossing airport runway

It still amazes me that these people blame map applications for their stupidity

Like who wouldn't see an airport runway?

Just like the person who didnt see a river or some sort of weir and drove their car in to it.

As much as I dislike Apple, it's worth noting that nobodies map systems are perfect. I absolutely love Google's, but there have been plenty of cases where people have been told to drive off cliffs, driven through fields and similar things. The thing that did annoy me though is that rather than implement a fix for it, they disabled route guidance in that area temporarily? How hard is it to just adjust the records?

in any case, I really think the blame for the people driving across a runway should lie with the people driving across the runway :p.

Surely they're doing that while they update the records. That's better than a half baked fix trotted out quickly that contains worse errors surely?

Apple maps are still terriable. I could forgive them at the start. But none of things i pointed out through the report button has been fixed and they were reorted at release. They're still a total joke more than a year on. So not surprised by this at all.

You would think that being such a problem for them they would have fixed the issues, but they just havent.

Yeah, and stuff like this with android doesnt happen :rolleyes:

You cant even use a new sammy out of the box properly, you would need to install a fresh and clean Android OS to get rid of sammys poo that they put which kills the phone.

I am happy with Iphone, I get it changed 2-3 times a year for free at apple shop cause I make some excuse its not doing well... They dont even bother just dish new one out... Wouldnt work with any other manufacturer... My oldest Iphone has been alive for 3 years and is in perfect condition and used by older family members.

My Nokias N series the N95 and N97 struggled to survive for a year, the paint peeled the camera scratched touch-screen came apart and Nokia refused to do anything about it... So then I just threw my N97 at the wall and said never again, since the thing couldnt even make phone calls cause TFT screen kept jamming after being in a pocket, so much for Iphone killer.... It was a disaster.

Personally cant wait till Android gets stores around me and improve their optimisation so I can move away from apple since IOS 7 am starting to hate this thing...

It is just idiots blindly following their bit of technology. There has been cases of people trying to drive across rivers or almost off a cliff "cos the satnav said so" people just don't use their eyes (or brains) any more.

yea my bikes satnav tells me to go the wrong way around roundabouts sometimes because it's a more direct route than going around the roundabout.
ofcourse if you have a brain you realise something isn't quite right

those people driving across the runway likely were so busy looking at their satnav they missed all of the warning signs that are bound to be around an airport

You are not a belieber, get out.

do drivers just blindly follow what Sat Nav's tell them or ocasionally look out of the window and make sure they are heading roughly in the right direction? ;)

When a firm reassuring voice tells you to do something you damned well do it

Didn't you ever go to school?!

Apple buy their mapping data, I think it's from TomTom at the moment.

Avid google purchased their data from Navtech orally, didn't stop them making the necessary improvements.

Edit: in tract Apple could buy the same Navtech data if they wanted to but they put politics first and didn't want to support a subsidiary of Nokia.

Everyones blaming the maps but you'd have to be pretty dense to drive across a runway without realising or knowing it's unsafe.

I just noticed this:

I am happy with Iphone, I get it changed 2-3 times a year for free at apple shop cause I make some excuse its not doing well...

So while this may not be breaking any law, it is morally wrong because you're just making up a lie to get a fresh new handset.

Because of that you lose credibility points.

BBC quoting airport asst manager:

"They had to enter the airport property via a motion-activated gate, and afterwards there are many signs, lights and painted markings, first warning that aircraft may share the road and then that drivers should not be there at all.

"They needed to drive over a mile with all this before reaching the runway. But the drivers disregarded all that because they were following the directions given on their iPhones."
