Friend buying a 50inch TV

I'm sure many will agree with me here, but please try and refrain your friend from buying from Curry's/PC World; their aftersales CS is really awful. Richer Sounds & JL are a safe bet and you won't get fobbed about.

Depending on his budget, the VT65 50" would probably be the best set he could go for albeit the ZT65, but that's short over £4k.

If he's after something a bit cheaper:

I got a 42" plasma panny comming up 5 years ago in december. At the time I did a lot of research and for sports especially as well as with the blacks, it came out best at the £800 bracket. I bought from JL purely for the customer service and 5 year warranty. What's the bets it's going to go pop around January? As stated, it certainly doesn't run cool, I basically only turned the radiators on in my lounge for about 4 weeks during this last winter!!

I did randomly have a quick look at tv's in pc world the other day when I stopped in for some paper, amazing what can be had for 800 these days. I would definitely still buy from a better retailer though, JL consistently scores super high with Which? Prob worth a few quid extra for peace of mind, especially if you are dropping near a grand on a TV.

Christ I sound old, can someone pass me my pipe and comfy slippers?

I would say it's good, but when I bought my G30 the 50" version of it was £480 and I know what I'd choose between Pani and LG.

that LG is probably the best tv you can buy for under £500 though, panny your looking at over double that for instance for a 50" and the sammy is £900 for the E8000.

for someone who only has £450 to spend, you couldn't go wrong with that LG tbh

P50ST50, 2nd best tv you could buy last year, price £599 & £699 online RS & hyperfi i believe.

My mate just bought one and loves it.

3rd best panny plasma last year, so it was never the 2nd best tv you could buy ever.

VT50 - GT50 - ST50

then you have to factor in tv's from other manufacturer's like samsung, i'm pretty sure the E8000 was on par with the ST50 for PQ, and didn't have all the issues panny panels had like the 50hz flicker bug, etc, and it also has other advantages like much better smart features, built in skype cam, etc.

£599 though for a 50" ST50 is a good deal, so long as it's brand new and comes with a decent warranty.

i got my 50" GT50 for £799 iirc, with free 3d glasses and 5 year warranty.
