I get so annoyed with personalised adverts, I much prefer being inundated with generic ads that are a waste of time and space rather than ads which reflect things I'm interested in and may purchase  Really (*&^es me off.

They are basically selling your peronal transaction history off for targeted advertising and that pays quite well. You're statement is proof, where's your cut of the money being paid to your bank for the privilege of this deep marketing insight?

I would have assumed that the code applies the ads to any transactions to xyz, so any statement with said transaction will get the same offer. They aren't "selling your personal transaction history", it's more like (IF ANY transactions = XYZ, then SHOWCASHBACKOFFERXYZ). Anyone with the feature not set to 'no' will have the code displaying the offers. The code is applied to all accounts, they aren't singling out yours, going through it with a fine tooth comb, and then deciding on what ads to display to you solely.

Damn them for offering money off ;) I got a choice of quite a few. Selected all, doubt i'll use them but hey you never know.. free money.

I'm confused. Is the OP claiming that Halifax are invading his privacy because they have visibility of his statement? How would you expect a bank to work without visibility of your account?

As for targetted ads, welcome to the internet.
