My gf dropped her Samsung Galaxy Note 2 and the whole glass front smashed, and so she arranged it through insurance for it to be repaired. The courier dropped off a brand new Note 2 yesterday and my gf handed over the broken phone, the courier said "I'm not down to collect anything love"...

So, can I keep it for myself and buy a screen off ebay? Will the courier come another day?

Presumably the IMEI won't be blocked as they only do that when they're reported lost or stolen?

One would the broken phone is now the property of her insurance company and it wouldn't surprise me if they blocked it! Might be worth googling her insurance provider and seeing what there normal proecedure is.

yeah, I tried my sim in it and it's working fine, picking up signal and 3g. Maybe I should wait a few days.

Contact the insurance company and inform them it needs picking up, insurance fraud isn't something you want to start messing about with.

Does the screen work bar broken glass? If so you can get the glass replaced for like £40

I managed to do it 8 times so far :) risky though as you need the tools for the job and patience of a saint.

you need

new glass panel : £15
LOCA UP glue: £8
Uv Lamp: £20
Heat gun: £30
Laser temp sensor: £70

Or send it to me ;)

yeah annoyingly we didnt know it was just the glass that needed replacing before calling the insurance company. i assumed the whole digitizer would need to be replaced which is £150 + the glass.

Screen is less than £10 off ebay which includes glue. Already have a heat gun. Temp sensor and UV lamp? meh:p

but, fraud.... :(

No no no.
You need the decent glass and the liquid glue.

don't use the cheap glass and sheet glue. It won't work.

There are some decent YouTube guides as well.

Get some 2mm wide double sided tape as well to make a dam to stop glue getting into home button and the like.

The liquid glue then needs setting with a Uv light for say 5 mins.

Get stuck? Send me a trust.

Call the insurance peeps and see what they say, you may be lucky you never know.
tell them it's totally ruined and you are more than happy to dispose of it via the correct means.

ok, thanks for the advice.

none of the youtube guides I've seen involve UV light though. I guess there's a "fix" and a "proper fix":p

Here is an ok video

he forgot to put the home button back in but never mind.

There are a few others showing the tape idea to stop glue leaking out.

In my eyes the hardest part is removing the glass in the first place. If you go to fast you will cracking the lcd. You need the glue to be around 90c at all times

haha, I wonder how many people try that and the insurance company twigs that the IMEI is different.

It was never your's to keep in the first place, so it really isn't a fret. What would be worth asking quickly is how much to buy it back from them.

Send the new one back and you'll get to keep the old one :)

MW

Thats an option if I cant buy it back I guess.

Diagro, if I was to replace the screen I think id get a grey one, prefer it to white... would it look daft with a white home button on grey?
