Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum vs GTX 680

DCU2s first is a 3 slot cooler. Second the first batch was full of problems. DVI problems etc etc. I think they fixed it with the second rev. Some also are voltage locked.

I dont get that thing with the custom cards. Most of them are marketing gimmick and use lower quality components than the ref one. Actually do you believe that military component from msi? You shouldnt.

280x will have a better pcb and probably better cooler than this card. Just look the new xfx cooler. My advice is to avoid asus this gen they were good but they messed hard this gen. Also you can look for a 290 with a price close to 399

399 is over £100 over my budget. and honestly i cant live with ref coolers. i changed the ref cooler on my gtx 480 and my xfx 5870. they are loud and run really hot.

I dont know why you compare ref coolers from old gens.

Also the new cooler from amd in the 280x is way better than the old cooler probably. We should wait for more info tho. Also i would never get a new 7970 right now i should wait for price drops after the new gen.Probably you can find a used dual-x or a his for really low price

If i remember from reviews matrix cooler was mediocre in temps and noise.

It seems to me that the 7970 is currently priced below the expected starting price of 280x. It may fall lower but we don't know. Used is an option if you don't want the games.

Enjoy your card Mjenabi :) Report back how you find it (if you haven't been put off the forums) :)

thanks. Everyone have been very helpful, for the most part and im glad ive come here anyways. I was going to spend £330 on a 770 but now got a 7970 for £260 and a lot of games : P

all in all im happy with the decision ive made and frankly didnt want to wait for the 280X because as i mentioned before, i dont like ref card coolers so i would have had to wait for Asus etc which i cant be bothered to be honest. and i dont think the price would drop any lower on the 7970. i mean u can get a ge for like £220 now, i cant see it go down any lower.

I will report back in a few days. im going to install it tonight or maybe tomorrow and i'll see if my silicon lottery ticket has won or not

It'll surprise me if you get over 1250 on core.

Lol cant believe you're comparing 480 ref cooler with AMD 7970 ref cooler.

Why not? A 7970 reference cooler IS stupidly loud.

1300 golden? lol

Depends on your definition of golden.

Oh, so much for Matrix cards eh? It so happens that my ref card does 1385 in certain benches :o

My ref card will only bench at up to around 1325 on selected benches (Generally does up to 1300 on benches and 1250 24/7) and that's on water. Another guy here has the same card and can do 1300+ on the ref cooler.
Matt's card could do 1340 or more with an Accelero...

You know that it's just luck of draw. You got lucky :)
