He's gone? Srs? That's the best pro cycling news I've heard all year!

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/brian-cookson-elected-uci-president

Brian Cookson has been elected as the new president of the UCI. At the UCI's annual Congress today in Florence, the British candidate received the majority of votes from the 42 authorized delegates. He defeated incumbent Pat McQuaid, who has served as UCI president since 2006.

Cookson beat his rival by 24 votes to 18 in the final run off.

:D

On Sunday I had a new cycling experience. Whilst doing just over 50km/h I collided with a rather large object. Thankfully, it hit me in the arm rather than me cycling into it with my wheel. Had I cycled into it I would almost certainly have come off. As it was it was just a heavy thud into my arm, which resulted in me laughing, rather than large amounts of road rash and pain.

So, Mrs. Pheasant who couldn't decide whether she was crossing, or stopping, or crossing, or stopping, thank you for taking flight and not remaining on the road. I hope that you are okay!

pigeon on a flat was fun too.. :o

I've not had any pidgeons hit me yet but there's been some close calls

I did overtake a lady the other week on a cycling path and some pidgeons sat on the path just in front of her got frightened by the sound of my bike and almost flew into the ladies front wheel LOL

Cheers for those images arknor, tbh I didn't think the dirt paths were that bad - nice a smooth even on 23c tyres, but it looks easy enough to skip half the paths :)

Will give that segment a go at some point but at 18st I don't hold much hope at getting up it at any speed.

yea I just don't like riding on them because of all the dust in the summer weather and if it's been raining the night/day before they can be really bad.

you seem to have got lost here btw near the tidal basin
Your route

My route

As you can see my route is almost a straight line towards the millennium bridge

I turn into the newly built houses and head to the end of that road which brings you onto the paved path along the river heading down towards the tyne bridge.

Eventually you end up here which I guess you likely know anyway

The junction is not as busy as you would imagine there's usually only 1-2 cars

it almost looks like you need to turn left here to get back next to the river but your not !

Obviously you don't have to follow my exact route but just incase you want to make it easier for yourself ;)

btw does it make loads of noise when you go over the millennium bridge lol :D
also loads of idiots walk 2 abreast over the shared cycling side! even when they could have gone over the pedestrian only side! but at least the noise makes most of them realise they are about to get run over.

also don't forget to do it in reverse sometimes once you know the route properly to get on some more segments :D

well done though you seem to have got lost about as much as I did my first time and I was trying to follow a blue line on a map lmfao

BTW near warburtons smells amazing when they are baking :(

I am so glad that I don't live in a city.

Peak District any day! :D :p

ahhh I see, yeah was looking for a blue sign not knowing which was it was really so went straight on and missed the turning.

Then when I got to the bridge the only way I saw down was on the ramp next to the stairs presumably for wheelchairs, nearly fell off on one of the hairpin bends due to clippless pedals. Looks like a much easier way down on the left of the road :)

Don't remember it making a huge amount of noise, was just a bit of a buzzing as I went over - maybe the thinner tyres are quieter.

Also followed a route 14 diversion for part of it which lead to a really steep path that the back wheel just span on - wasn't sure if there were works on the path or something? Didn't want to follow the blue sign down the hill just to come back up again lol

When I go over the millenium bridge it's like a baboom baboom sound like the metal boards on the bridge are bouncing :D

I always try to power up half way though so maybe your not going fast enough :D

I have no idea where that is tbh might be somewhere you got lost that I've never been

Looking at the map it was just before you go under the redheugh bridge, rather than going down to the riverfront there was a diversion sign that lead me up to the A184 - could've been on a different section to you though. I'll follow the blue sign next time as I don't think there was actually any reason for the diversion sign.

Annoying the bridge segment is flagged but yeah looks like I did it slower than you lol
