Steam reveal

Toshiba, dell, alienware, mackbook pro, samsung etc. so i very much doubt its qaulity issue, its just trackpads for you. At least on tablets, its glass which is a hell of a lot smoother and less friction, but even that if swiping for ages fingers can become tender.

Can't say I've ever had a problem with them, in fact the track pad on my MacBook Pro is by some way the best I've used & I'm sure these track pads will be sufficient too.

Again nothing to do with accracy. You ever played games on said trackpad for long periods, or do what most people do and use them for short tasks and plug a mouse in for longer stuff.

When I'm on my MacBook Pro I use the track pad for everything for varying lengths of time, including some games.

I even have an Apple Track Pad that I can connect via blue tooth that I use sometimes too.

Don't really understand your issue, but it wouldn't be the first time.

The issue is easy to understand abrasive surface, that you continually swipe fin ger over = soreness, same principle as blisters on poor fitting shoes, due to trubbing. Ok it never gets that fsr, but its still sore.
Skiin is not deisgned for such things. Fine for short periods, not so much for hours on end.

Maybe you have strange fingers then Glaucus as I've literally never heard of this problem before & without using the controller or at least feeling it, I've no idea where you're coming from either.

Still don't know why they have a pad anyway. Have I missed something something big where you can't just use a mouse and keyboard the way god intended?

Glaucus clearly has his mind made up her but I think it's got potential.

Don't know why you are still going on about 2 buttons for most games. It's clear it has about 10 reachable in the normal hands on position. 16 over all

Plus if it's open source what's to stop people developing the right pad to register as a different button depending where pressed? I think it's this openness which could set it apart from a standard controller

Reachable /= same time.
Yes my mind is made up, just like yours, just opposite ends. The ulti mate test will be when we get are hands on it. But at the moment we dont have the luxury. You think its fine, I think it has majour design flaws. Wonder if their OS will be compatable with xbox controllers.

I'm far from made up but I think for a living room controller it has potential.

A track pad is exactly what you miss most on a HTPC or in the livingroom
I get by with a media center remote. Sometimes you just need a mouse.
Yatse and unified remote via Android have helped recently but the only other alternative is to have a wireless mouse or keyboard/track pad hybrid on the couch.

You could conceivably type with that pad using gestures to make letters on one side and the mouse cursor on the other. Or have a SwiftKey type flow keyboard. Both of which would be faster than navigating with analog thumb sticks

Have you tried using trackpads on laptops for any length of time? Painful fingers is an understatment.

TBH I was wondering why my right index finger was nothing more than a bloody stub of bone... What are your hands made of? Cheese?

It looks interesting, can't say how it'll handle til there are some hands on reviews.

There is a good reason why the controller has seen little innovation in the last 15 years or so...

There was similar sentiment when motorised vehicles began to appear :p

Oh well the one thing I wanted HL3 never came and they have produced three items I have no interest in or see as that interesting beyond them expanding their wallets.

The most interesting thing I have found this week is the BBC posting about their flat management structure at Valve.

I'm happy with running Windows with games in it, add in Mantle to bypass DX and I'm happy.

I might VM Steam OS IF there is an exclusive game like HL3, but I wont dual boot or by a Hardware platform. I cant justify the loss of the multi function I have with windows.
